I’ll make the story quick. Check engine light p0420 code. It’s been cleared over and over and still pops up. The driving issues I have are the following:

Cannot accelerate quickly

If floored, rpms go to around 4K
And it doesn’t really generate any speed

Have to accelerate slowly to get above 60, if rpms too high doesn’t switch gear (3rd gear I think)

Driving up a mountain right now and I’m maxed at 40mph, rpms at 3k, Very weak

Car has 256k on it, I’ve had it for a year. All fluids are correct level as far as oil and tranny fluid.

Any ideas? I’m bout ready to just run it off a cliff

P0420 says you have s catalytic converters problem (google fir more info).
At your mileage, and from experience, you need a new converter. I don't suggest you continue to drive until fixed.

A plugged cat would cause a problem. A fractured cat would cause an even bigger problem if its ceramic particles would get sucked into the cylinders and chew up the sleeves, pistons, and rings. Have your pre-cat looked at. Sorry, it's quite a big job as some suspension and steering pieces have to come off from what I heard. Have them do a compression test while at it.
