2005 and 2006 Pilot interior differences

Hey guys, so I am trying to plan out a way to get a Carplay head unit into my '05 Pilot. The issue is that my Pilot has the navigation unit on the top of the dash, and the FM radio on the bottom half where other '05s just have some CD storage. (image below of everything I'm talking about.) I saw a youtube video where someone got past this problem by putting the head unit into the top, but then using a 2006-2008 Metra kit to mask that bottom half into a storage space. I was wondering if anyone had an idea on if there is a significant difference in the sizing of the radios between the '06 and '05 Pilot. I don't see why it shouldn't work as the components look to be very similar. (I am not concerned about the NAV unit sizing because I have a different part to cover that, more concerned about the bottom. Will this kit fit into my '05?

@plplplpl IIRC you have the GTA Car Kit installed as well? I'll be curious to see how it meshes with that.

I've thought about getting a GTA Car Kit module for my Odyssey but wasn't sure about making it work with the cassette player also in there. I emailed the folks, and they basically told me it was a 50/50 chance of it working...not the most helpful.

Also, I found this interesting manual that appears to be from Honda. It shows the cassette player installation instructions for the 06 Pilot EX:

Where's that one from? It has everything: AM/FM, cassette, DVD (for RES, no doubt) and a CD player (1 or 6?) . (y)

That's kind of the wild card I'm wondering about. I checked in the box my GTA Car Kit came in, and I still have the included Y-harness I didn't end up needing. It'll be interesting to see if it comes in handy now. :)

And thanks for that. Another good place to get installation manuals, I've found, is Bernardi. They often post unwatermarked PDFs if you scroll down a bit on some of their parts pages.

It is for 2003-05 Pilot RES.

The head unit those years had a 1-CD player, and a 6-CD player could be an add-on unit under the seat, right? Even for an RES trim?

I know my non-RES 05 stereo got 6 disc cd changer. I would imagine the same for the other models. Seems like they used the same stereo for RES and Non-RES with different guts. My cd-changer is in the dash under the climate control.

Ah, so a separate 6-CD unit not integrated in the head unit like my 2006 RES head unit has? My DVD player is where your CD changer is. Hmm, this prolongs my suspense.

I wonder how hard it would be to integrate the system with the dvd being where the cd changer is, and needing to re-wire it to the stereo if you go that route. Would make a pretty good write-up.

6 disc + 1 in the head unit makes 7 disc plus tape. If that helps any.

Finally got my eBay cassette player. I will attempt the installation when the weather warms up, up here.

Now I'm concerned my GTA Car Kit Y-cable won't be long enough. The cassette player came with the harness but its wires cut off.

The Y-harness I have left over from my GTA-Car Kit is only yay long...

Anyway, it looks like I'll need a male-to-male harness with this, right?

Or do I just need a male-to-female harness straight from the head unit, since I didn't need this Y-harness in my original GTA Car Kit installation?
