My dealer says that Honda does not sell the little 3" (or so) foglight glass lens separately -- mine is pretty cracked up -- so an entirely new assembly is needed that costs $105 just for the parts -- to replace ONE lens!! Nice engineering there, Honda... Has anyone had to replace one of these lenses, and done it a lot less expensively??? I'm considering just getting a piece of glass cut and glue it on myself. They also say it takes the technician about 1-1.5 hours to do the job -- an estimated $102. All plus tax, of course.... Thoughts? Thanks in advance...

Considering the headlights assembly will run you over $800 that sounds pretty reasonable. If you're willing to do the work yourself, looks like you can buy the part for $52.

The clear front cover is not designed to be replaced separate from the housing. They almost never are in cases like this. Those aftermarket TYC ones from Rock Auto will probably work just fine.

Replace them with some LED SS3 from Diode Dynamics but that will cost more.

Get the factory part if you like what they were or the Rock Auto TYC ones and THEN get piece of thick headlight protection film and cover them. save them from next time.

Check beam pattern before and after. I got some cheaper aftermarket for my FIL Jeep Renegade. Got money refunded. totally unusable beam pattern and reflectors were loose and crooked. Looked OK, but any light they did put out would just glare everywhere.

I'm happy to try that myself if it's a pretty straightforward replacement, but I guess I'll need to look at the area around it and find a 'way in." If I have to take out a bunch of other parts to get to it, I'll be less keen on doing it myself.

Anyone out there tried this replacement themselves???

I'm good with trying this replacement myself, all, but I'd love to know if anyone has tried it themselves and how deep the rabbit hole is of "other stuff" that has to be taken apart to get to it. I'll be taking a look myself this weekend. Sometimes the seemingly simplest fixes turn into something more close to a total rebuild...

Not sure if this is what you are looking for (and I've not done this job myself), but here are the instructions Honda provides for installing the fog light accessory kit. Honda eStore instructions
May be worth reading over to see how access to the fog light fixture is obtained behind the bumper. Looks to be doable without all that other "installation" stuff. Plus, there are several DIY videos on YouTube about this topic if you want to check out those sources. Good luck

Huge help! Thanks very much. If i pursue this, I'll report back on how it went...

EDIT -- couldn't get that link to work -- got the "You are not authorized to view the content on this page. If you believe you have received this message in error, please contact the Support Center" message...

I'll try to send you a private PM with instructions how to access that info as it is way to confusing for me to do it in a post like this. I've found Honda's accessory instructions to be excellent for learning how to work around parts and trim on my Pilot, and frankly have downloaded several on my computer. They are written for the car owner, not a shop mechanic, so a DIY dummy like me can do it without making mistakes.

Nice job on video. Now get piece of thick headlight protection film and cover them. save them from rocks for next time.

Weathertech lamp guard is an example. but this is full kit for headlights also. They might sell just fog light if you call.

Headlight Armor - $20 - you can get in clear, yellow, smoke, blue.

Does that stuff really work? Got both fog lights busted out on my highest mileage Crosstour. That’s after replacing them once. (75mph highways)

Yes. look up X-Pel or 3m headlight film. They make thinner version like the paint protection film also. I like the thicker for the lights.

Just to add as reference with all the faded headlights. It kept the plastic from chipping, killing UV coat etc. I had the thick vinyl X-Pel or other 3M on my Sonata for 220k and 12 years. The vinyl had some little chips but basically lights were crystal clear. Same on my foglights on many vehicles. Saved some expensive glass lights I had for headlights as well as driving/fog.

That was as it was getting ready for scrapyard and sitting for many months not getting washed. I think I had 3 windshields and untold number of frontend bumper chips. Felt like 80 grit sand paper when you washed the bumper.

I guess I’m questioning how this can prevent glass from shattering as the fog light in the video.

Yes. They used to have video's showing it. Can't find it now. Think of the manufacturers (or people) that add those clear paint protection films. The thicker headlight one absorbs the impacts, like 8 layers of PPF. Here is one with paint film.

The rock impacts and not breaking/chipping are the main goals. The keeping plastic from fading is a bonus.

Lamin-X is 12 mils thick . The Weathertech doesn't say but is thick also. Headlight Armor is listed as 15 mil.

I have some from another company that I put on but not sure overall. It's a little thicker than the paint film. I'm not confident on larger rock impacts with it but that was what was available at the time. Might get replaced some day with one of the above.

Another test with some 12 mil vs 6 mil. I don't know if Weathertech would share what there's is if you called.
