      My 2018 EXL did not come with courtesy lights nor did it come with running boards. I'm clumsy, my parents are getting older and my kids will be kids so I wanted lights for our safety. After searching for aftermarket help and finding nothing reasonable as usual, I decided to just do it myself. This is literally my second time soldering and just like to say that the crap coming out of my kids nose looks far better than my actual soldering. There are different and better ways to do this. This is just how I worked it out.

      Looking at the back of the front door card reveals that there are no provisions for a courtesy light. I researched and cross-referenced parts that would make it happen and realized that it would take too much money and effort. So searching through this forum I found my golden ticket...

      PART 2 Into the cabin

      I worked the clips around this and pushed it out to get the gray wire inside. Not easy and lots of cursing


      I connected the wires and buttoned the door back up and tested the wiring


      Looks clean and is protected against the elements and debris


      Pilot holes drilled and keepers screwed down over each end and cut point. Time to reattach


      Wire comes up through the hole in driver and passenger footwell meant for running board light harness. I poked a hole in the grommet and pushed it through. I sealed the hole I made with the silicone.


      I cut the connectors off and used butt connectors to wire everything. Time to button everything up and clean.


      It took me a whole day to install so by the end I wasn't interested in photos but most of what I left out is in the harness diagram. Despite the back ache and scrapes, I'd do it again in a hearbeat.
