  1. Passport vs Pilot

    2019+ Honda Passport General Discussions
The six inches does make a nice change to the exterior appearance--maybe less bloated, perhaps? I never had a use for a third row seat, so not having it means nothing to me. But...I had this wild idea with a Pilot to completely remove the third row seat, build up a matching carpeted platform...
  2. Modifying Metra harness to include steering wheel controls

    Audio & Electronics
Late to the party. :D I'll put this here for future reference. There are interfaces out there now that will connect a car's steering wheel controls to a head unit. I used one in my '09 CR-V. It is separate from the wiring harness from car to head unit, as I believe it has some "logic" built...
  3. Passport vs Pilot

    2019+ Honda Passport General Discussions
It's a fluke--some B7XAs were good, but there are many others that failed, all with the same problem (always in the 1-2 upshift--a very late shift, then very harsh engagement of 2nd). My problem is deciding if we want to get it fixed or sell the car and get something better, even though we paid...
  4. Brake+Gas paddle for starting why?

    2016- Third generation Pilot
We carried an old wooden clothespin in the '73 Pontiac. For some reason, the choke would think the engine was cold when it was only driven a few miles (partially warmed up), and shut itself. Same thing--wing nut, hold the choke plate open, start it up, undo everything and drive off. Took a...
  5. No cd player! Yikes!!!!!

    2016- Third generation Pilot
Acura gets the cream of the crop for audio systems--the ELS or Krell systems in the RLX (and likely other models) are supposedly quite good. But the Honda systems, no matter how many speakers and watts they advertise, never sound good enough for me. I don't know if it would increase sales or...
  6. It's here, full replacement 10" android headunit for 3rd gen pilot

    2016- Third generation Pilot
That makes sense. I've seen DIY videos on adapting cheap tablets to replace head units in cars. They would just have to add all the electronics for amplification and all the data and power inputs/outputs that need to tie it to the car. I think I've read of some owners using the "Honda hack"...
  7. DIY oil change

    2016- Third generation Pilot
I'm sticking with Mobil 1 filters (made by Champion Industries). I disliked the few Frams I used in the recent past--difficult to remove since that grippy black rubber on the bottom would slip inside my filter wrenches, and I'd have to partly crush the filters to get them off by whatever means...
  8. It's here, full replacement 10" android headunit for 3rd gen pilot

    2016- Third generation Pilot
Same here. Off-brands I will not touch. If it isn't Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, etc., it's not going in any car I own. Not that the idea isn't bad, but I would rather give up features and get high-quality sound and reliability over an unknown entity.
  9. Brake+Gas paddle for starting why?

    2016- Third generation Pilot
I haven't pushed the gas pedal to start a car since the days of carburetors. 😁
  10. Consumer Reports: Current Gen Pilots Handling is "Ungainly"

    2016- Third generation Pilot
That describes many of the blogs on the Internet, now that I think of it...
  11. Messy Messy Messy... oil change .. bad design

    2016- Third generation Pilot
Depends on which K-series engine it is. My '09 CR-Vs have the filter hanging down near the bottom of the engine, and they're the K24. With my '97 and the '04 Civic, I have to reach up similar to what you're saying--the filter is on the side of the engine by the firewall. Given their issues...
  12. Consumer Reports: Current Gen Pilots Handling is "Ungainly"

    2016- Third generation Pilot
Well, she's right. Even my old '97 CR-V could do a burnout! 😁 Only partially kidding. When my driveshaft was out, and I had the lousy Toyo Extensa tires on it, I could break the front tires loose on certain starts, and could break them loose on any wet pavement at half throttle. (They had...
  13. Consumer Reports: Current Gen Pilots Handling is "Ungainly"

    2016- Third generation Pilot
Consumer Reports is the same bunch who complained about rollovers during testing of SUVs about 15 or more years ago. While none of us are "professional" drivers, I would trust the review of someone who can "read" the dynamics of a vehicle by how it feels and reacts on the road, over some Joe...
  14. Aftermarket head unit in 3rd gen Pilot

    2016- Third generation Pilot
I'm not quite 60 yet but I have only a handful of years to go. 😁 But I remember being in high school and buying my first car audio upgrade--an under-dash cassette player from Radio Shack, on sale for $19.99, installed in our '73 Catalina. It all grew from there, and I had the Sony CDX-R7...
  15. Lx and ex owners, any trim regrets?

    2016- Third generation Pilot
I'm thinking of an EX-L when I go to upgrade one of our CR-Vs, and it will probably be a used 2016 or 2017. My main reason for sticking to an EX-L at most is due to the ZF transmission in the higher models. (Aside from numerous bad reports of the ZF tranny in the Pilot, other manufacturers...
