Default Any Mtn Bikers in San Jose area?

Just wondering if there are any mountain bikers in San Jose area? A few of us are hitting St. Joseph trail in Los Gatos every Saturday morning. A bunch of us are new riders so the pace is slow, but you are welcome to join us.

Default What time?

When I have a free Saturday morning I'll try to be there. I've ridden that route many times and enjoy the Los Gatos scenery that uses those trails.

I've moved to where I am 10 minutes drive from Fremont-Older Open Space, which is one of my favorite MB spots, but have yet to get there. I tried to get there the other night, but my wife had some unpacking for me to do if I wanted her to cook dinner.

We meet up at 7:45am at the parking lot on Park Ave & W. Main Ave. The path that we take:

- From Parking lot, turn right on W. Main (heading towards Los Gatos HS)
- Turn Right on College Ave.
- Follow College Ave, Turn Right on Jones Rd.
- At the end of Jones Rd. is the entrance to St. Joseph Trail.

The ride is about 5.5 miles and 900 feet elevation. We usually ride up to the summit at our own pace and meet up at the top. 1st group arrives in about 30 min. 2nd - 35-40 min, 3rd - 40-55min. As you can see we have varied skill riders.

Hope you can join us sometime.

Fremont Older is a lot less rocky and most of it is less steep than St. Joseph's Hill. You can get a long, steep climb on service road for power line by parking below the dam at Stevens Creek, but you have to pay to park there. Fremont Older also gets hot in the PM.

There is more single track. Some of it contours up and down the hills including a short, partially shady loop called Seven Springs that I have enjoyed enough to do in both directions in the same hour. The Manzanita Trail is another single-track that slowly and easily climbs towards top of park and Garrod Stables. Watch out for horses. Ask riders it is OK to pass.

Fremont Older gets a lot of use and has some nice views and scenery, but not as much as above Los Gatos. Go up Hunter's Point for a great close-in view of South Bay from Cupertino to Mountain View and San Jose.

Thanks for the info. Hope to get some time and head out there in the near future.
