what's up steelblue! i'm from fremont...other side of the bay. anyway, other than just saying hey...i wanted to also ask for shops that any of the local folks here have gone to. i've been reading up on this 3m clear bra and have seen the link to xpel as well as the preferred installers. has anyone done this to their pilot using another shop? positive or negative experience? i'm looking to do this for my pilot soon.

Hey jay3 & Steelblue,

I'm down in Campbell (next to San Jose).

Yea, I had the X-Pel stuff put on my '06. I'm at work and my paperwork for it is at home. I think they did a pretty good job on it but it wasn't cheap! As I recall, I think it was $800 for the basic work (extended kit for the hood, headlights, fog lights, side mirrors, etc) plus they charged me an additional $100 to protect my body side molding (to prevent door dings).

The place isn't a brick & motar shop. They're mobile and come out to your house. It's two brothers. One lives in San Jose and the other out somewhere like Stockton! But, they do the work for high-end dealers (lots of Porsches and the like).

I guess you could say I liked the job since I later had them come out to do the works on my girlfriends '06 Civic!

And, if you're thinking about it, I'd do it sooner than later! The longer you go without it, the more chips you'll get .

I'll try to lookup their contact info this evening.

Later!
Larry.

Hi jay3,

The place that did it is:

CS Specialties
2980 E. Capitol Expressway # 50-325
San Jose, CA 95148-4246
408-476-3332

I paid $895 for the whole front end plus $100 for the body side molding.

There are two brothers, Mariano who lives in San Jose and Ken who lives somewhere in the central valley (Lodi?). They both are pretty good (and both nice guys), but, if I was doing it over again, I'd let either do the Civic since it's a much easier job. But, I'd specify that only Mariano work on the Pilot front end. Just look at some of the curves they need to fit on the hood. It really is a very hard car to cover with this stuff and Ken really has the touch for the fine details.

Good luck!
Larry.

I lived on 44th by the zoo for 10 years. Nice quiet neigborhood except for the rice rockets and motorcycles running stop signs in the middle of the night.
