I was "in the area" last September on one of my MC trips. Unless you REALLY want to stay in Lake Tahoo itself - I would recommend getting away a bit. Our base was Minden NV which is a GREAT little town - and not too far a drive to Lake Tahoo.

YMMV

I lived in Lake Tahoe for about 20 years. I would recommend staying in Incline Village which is on the North shore. It has one nice casino(Hyatt), beautiful beaches, plenty of shopping and outdoor activities.

If you want to do a lot of gambling you might want to stay in South Shore. South Shore has many large casions but isn't as nice as Incline Village.

Tahoe City on the West Shore would also be nice. It is close to Squaw Valley(take the tram to the top) and The truckee river(great river rafting for the whole family). However, there aren't any casinos in Tahoe City.

You will have fun no matter where you stay, Tahoe has endless outdoor activities.

Incline has a nice golf course.

From Incline, a jog over Mt Rose and you can be in Reno in a very short time - if you think the kids might enjoy the midway at Circus Circus.

There's also the waterpark in Sparks.

Drive down toward South Lake Tahoe and there are a few public beaches with jet ski rentals.

Drive into South Lake Tahoe and there are a few multi-plexes (one in Horizon Casino and the other in the new Heavenly Valley convention center).

Time permitting - you might also consider a short drive to Virginia City. Very historic.

NorthStar at Tahoe has condo rentals at the resort and they have many summer activities. I personally like the north side better. Much more peaceful and quiet.

That's a great place to stay. Squaw Valley is beautiful and there is lots to do. A few things to try: take the tram to the top of Squaw Valley for lunch, visit Truckee, go to the beach in Tahoe city, Take boat trip from the Tahoe City marina, Drive to Emerald Bay and tour Vikingsholm castle, drive all the way around the lake, go rafting down the Truckee river.

Be sure to post some pics of the trip.
