What exactly do you mean?
Does it every start? How long does it crank? Does it eventually stop cranking, or do you do something to stop it?

Sounds like the bendix gear is getting dirty.

How new is this Starting Feature? It sounds like something is messing up with this feature.
Without touching the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition switch to the START (III) position, then release the ignition switch. You do not need to hold the ignition switch in the START (III) position to start the engine. Depending onthe outside temperature, the starter motor runs for about 6 to 9 seconds until the engine starts.
If you hold the ignition switch in the START (III) position for more than 7 seconds, the starter motor, depending on the outside temperature, runs for about 10 to 25 seconds until the engine starts. |

Same has happened here as well. Probably 3-4 times in the 2 months I've had the Pilot (start car at least twice daily). Seems to have started after having Honda remote start installed, although I only had the Pilot for a week before I had the remote start installed. Hasn't happened in a few weeks, so I haven't taken it back since it isn't reproducible. Doesnt seem to be any pattern to it (temperature, using the remote start, holding the key over for a second or just giving itna quick flick). Guessing it's a cheap starter or loose connection.

Is the symptom a long crank and then start,
or a long crank and then no-start, or a too short crank and no-start?

We had some long crank issues, usually associated with the change in fuel from summer to winter blend, and back.
It has been reported for almost all years. It might be more noticeable with the new starter system.

Ok, check battery condition and fuel rail pressure.

I had this happening to me too. Then I realized that to start the Pilot, all you have to do is turn the key and then release it. You don't need to hold the key in the start position until the motor starts. Just turn and release and let the Pilot do the rest. I've never had this problem again once I realized that.

This has happened on all 3 of the pilot I have had new. First they said it was the fuel pump. THen it was some other stuff. Basically the motor is breakin in and this will go away. My 10 and 07 did it as well. After 1000 miles it didn't happen anymore. The 2012 I just got is doing it as well.

I have a 2012 Pilot with 800 miles and have been having some starter issues-starter staying on, long cranking time. I just tried your technique of turning key to start then releasing the key immediately.....it cranked until it started (normal time). Thanks, I will keep my fingers crossed.
