I had one from yourwirelesskeys.com, it wasn't their fault, but the flip keys hold the transponder just a bit further from the steering column than the stock keys and it would cause my pilot of shut down on start up enough to be very annoying. Swapped back to the stock key and all is well again.

My local Honda Dealer just lost any future business from me.....

Called them up and asked if they could cut an ignition key for me, told them I was swapping the internals so I didn't need it programed or anything, just cut, the guy said no problem 15 bucks, come on in.

I get there, set the new key and old key on the counter and say I'd like to get this new one cut to match.
Guy says "We don't do that here". I point over his shoulder towards the back of the room, "isn't that the machine to cut keys right there?"

Long story short, he wouldn't cut it because it wasn't a "genuine honda" key, and it might "break" his machine.

So I drove across the street to the Acura dealer, they said sure no problem, took the keys, done in about 5 minutes and didn't charge me anything!

Cost = $110 to reprogram + cutting costs.

SCAM or TRUTH, I can never ever trust dealers.

UPDATE!!!!

To make sure if scam or truth, i called the ebay seller and called a auto locksmith and both said that if the transponder is not attached to the guts it would be attached to the shell and would have to be removed using a heatgun, but being careful not to burn it.

I F#&$%ng hate car dealers, especially the ones that think they all mighty b/c they sell many cars.

Hope this helps you guys.
Just got the keys delivered to me and called same dealer, told them i bought a 2012 pilot from them in december, he said that I need to reprogram and the whole need to pay deal.

I told him I just need keys cut for my kids so they can get in and out of the car and didn't need programming done.

He said sure, come in and I will just cut them for ya. No charge.

I will see tomorrow if that is true, and if not will have the salesman come and vouch for me, and if not happens then I will make a huge fuzz and show customers there how much loyalty they are showing after you purchase a car there.

During lunch I went to the dealer and the guy i spoke to was there, he not only cut my key for the pilot but as well as one for the accord.

Note: the pilot transponder chip is inside built in so no need to remove the transponder separately.

Accord key did have the transponder on the side and was able to remove with an exacto knife pretty easily, the top is a snap on that is held from both sides and you can use the exacto to pop it out then the sticky compound that you need to remove from between the case and transponder is on the bottom if you are looking at with the key pointing up.

Next thing to do is test the keys, I hope i am not stranded when i go home with the accord and the new flip key b/c the chip is a bit too far for the car to read the chip.

Has anyone else had problems with the flip keys? I'm still trying to get a dealer to do them. One will definitely not do it because it's aftermarket, and another one is charging me $10+tax, but I did not mention it was aftermarket.

Honda dealers are a dime a dozen in the L.A. area. Call around until you find one that will cut it for you at no charge. If that fails - try an Acura dealer. I was able to get mine cut at no charge in San Diego.

Costs more than the $10 to drive to the next dealer. Easy enough to stay on their preferred customer, take care of this guy list., takes only $10 and a few minutes, and your key is cut to boot. What's not to like about this?

Got a Honda dealer to cut two keys for $10 and took about 5 mins. Once in a while the engine will cut off after turning the car on. Doesn't happen all the time. Hope I don't get stuck somewhere far.

I got mine from "yourkeylessremote" mentioned early in the thread, and mines not holding up all that great.

The actual key part is starting to get "loose", when it's flipped open you can wiggle the key back and forth, it moves at the junction of the key and the part that attaches to the fob. I don't mean between the metal and the plastic, a little wiggle there would be fine, it is plastic after all. I mean between the 2 metal parts, if you look on the side you can see a little metal "pin" that holds the straight key part to the metal piece that attaches to the plastic fob.

I'm worried if it totally comes off I'm going to have a key stuck in my ignition with no way to get it out!

Might try and see if I can get that pin out and put a little JB weld or something on it.

Just tried my dealer, they refused. Hopefully I can find someone else who will cut them.
