I'm in Manassas, VA, and work in Tysons. It's a 23 mile trip east in the morning on I-66, and takes 45 minutes if you leave at 6:15 am, but averages 1 hour during normal rush hour. We really have an extended rush hour here because of the military, I think. They all get to work at o-dark thirty, and clog up the roads early. I leave the house every day at 6:15, and am normally at work at 7:00 am.
I've lived in the area since 1974, and lived and worked here and in Maryland, and would be happy to answer in detail any traffic, tax, lifestyle etc. questions you have. Maryland and Northern Virginia are very different culturally, politically, tax structure, etc.
