Default Need advice on a purchase for 2010 Pilot Touring

Hello everyone
New to the pilot community. We have looking for a pilot touring for our small family since a while now. We have finally decided to pick one up therefore need all the members here to advice us for any known defects, any future problems I might face, and what the right price should be.

Details on the pilot
Year: 2010
Model: Pilot Touring
Black exterior
Black interior
Mileage 41xxx
Besides the touring package it also has running boards installed

My main concern is that it's not a honda certified. It was a lease turn in at an Infiniti dealer.

It does have 2 open recalls sun roof motor and sear belt stitching.

Ay feedback will be appreciated
Thanks

ask them to certify it for you, anyone can. you can as well, just got to pay for it.

or go buy a certified one instead and save the time.

Dealer stated it went through the process but honda refused. Instead they are offering a 150 point inspection and offering extend warranty plans. Asking price is $29000

For 29K + tax and license you can get a new EX. Sure you don't want to go new?

in my opinion you should walk away from that vehicle. plenty of Pilots for sale elsewhere.

but we are only interested in the Tourning model. The main attraction is the navi, dvd and auto tail gate features which are very useful.

I am not sure if its possible, but if you have your heart set on this particular car I would try to find out exactly why Honda is refusing to certify it.

I purchased a touring Pilot a few months ago and it ended up having a bad engine due to engine sludge. It was an 09 with about 72k. I didn't know about this potential problem until after I bought the car and that is my own fault. So my advice would be to check the engine for sludge and find out everything you can about the oil change history.

As any Navi equipped Honda owner will tell you, its a poor system with road data that is incredibly out of date the moment it leaves the factory and updates are overpriced and out of date as well. Garmin or TomTom make a better systemm for a fraction of the price.

DVD: Easy to add DVD whether overhead or headrest into any Pilot. Advantage here is if you go with the non DVD/RES car and add the DVD, you'll end up with a more versatile system.

Auto tailgate: They aren't heavy but if you are used to having one and love it, ok.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is walk away from a car you have your heart set on. I'll echo Strate l o s s and recommend you find another that Honda will certify. Don't buy someone else's problem.

I have the auto tailgate option on my '12 EXL and it's a very nice feature, but I'd forgo that to get a new non equipped model than a used equipped with model.

The rear dvd is really nothing at all to sway this purchase imo, an iPad 4 costs $500 and will blow that thing away many times over.

The navi as well, google has free navigation for smart phones which too will blow away a stock Honda navi unit.

All those aside, I'd pass on this particular vehicle for exactly the reason that it isn't certified, certification is cheap and easy to DIY if the vehicle meets the standards(which if it can't is a major problem).

Thanks for your feedback. I'm still debating on that car, you know how the car sales man are trying their best to sell the car. Il check for sludge on that pilot or any car we decide to buy

True I'm only going to try to get a certified car from now on. But why does honda refuse to non certify a vehicle. Also can only honda certify a used honda as this vehicle is at a Infiniti dealer, Infiniti can't ask honda to certify it for them so they can resale it. ??

They can, you can certify it as well providing you pay for the warranty extension and it passes the guidelines.

Either the car doesn't pass the guidelines or the dealer isn't up to certifying it which in my opinion is cause to shop for another Pilot or at a different dealership.

Option C is to negotiate the price down a few thousand dollars ($3000+) to leave room for any repairs should the need arise.

remember, there are plenty of Pilots for sale at plenty of dealerships.
