Default 2009 Honda Pilot Misfire P0302 Cylinder 2 Video

My brothers Honda Pilot gave him issues the other night while traveling on the interstate.

Check Engine Light Blinking and the engine was running very rough.

After getting it towed to his house one of his neighbors had a scan reader.

Code P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire

Cylinder 2 is the middle cylinder closet to the passenger compartment / firewall.

After googling the issue I found TSB SB-10-063

I was very surprised how easy it was to access the plugs and after replacing the plug his pilot runs like new again.

Here is a YouTube video which may help others or give someone the confidence to repair or replace their own spark plugs saving money rather than taking it to the dealer.

2009 Honda Pilot Misfire and How to Change Spark Plugs - YouTube

Local Dealer wanted $220 ish + - (sorry my wife threw the paper out)

Oriely's 6 OEM NGK Plugs was $82 +

Took me 15 minutes to change all 6 plugs.

64,707 miles

Yes they are suppose to last till 100,000 miles or more but the cylinder management system is causing issues. This was predicted when they came out with the cylinder deactivation system.

Plus in my opinion I do not believe that the spark plugs are designed well to handle the extra stress of the cylinder deactivation plus the length of the threads that is inserted into the head Which requires a much longer electrode.

Default Thank You CHADC880!!!!!

CHADC880 thanks for posting this AND making the video!

I would definitely tackle this if I ever got the code.

I wonder if one could talk the dealer into updating the software at no cost.... it's not like driving the car is "wearing out" the software thus causing the issue.

Honda *should* provide the update to the software at no charge but it is likely they would want to charge for it.

No problem hopefully this pilot will stay together from here on out unfortunately his driver side door panel arm pad is falling apart as well

Chad -

I have the same situation with my 2010 45k. P0302 cylinder #2. Question for you: the TSB calls for the PCM update. Did you do that yourself? Has anyone gone to Honda out of warrenty and had it done?

Also, the plugs you bought, do they come pre-gapped? Any seals need to be changed or be oiled?

Another plug source:

Thanks,

Service manual calls for gapping 1.0-1.1 mm, anti-seize compound, install to finger tight and torque to 18 N-M.
