Default potential disaster - loose pad under engine cover

checked the fluids on my 2010 this morning and found that the pad under the engine cover was loose (image attached) and nearly interfering with the belt. i could only imagine what would have happened if it interfered with the belt.

for now i removed the pad - is it necessary at all?

Its the upper engine cover gasket, should be replaced ...shop manual indicates replacement necessary after upper engine cover removal.

More likely they did not re-install it properly after the service

Default Same thing happened to me

Thanks for posting. I checked under the hood and saw the same piece of material and had no idea what it was. I threw it away. Now it looks like the dealership must not have reinstalled correctly.

i don't see any reason to buy a new one, the one that fell out looks fine. i'd say its really just a poor design and i think its safer to leave it out so as to not risk any future interference with the motor. i'll call the dealer to see what they say, but i cant see how this part performs anything vital.

Probably little more than anti vibration type padding. All the plastic cover does is dress up the engine.
