Default Leaking lower control arm bushing

Anyone with info as to when the redesigned bushing were implemented into the pilots, just wonder if later productions of 2010 or 2011 have the redesigned parts?

Quick update but I have to say that I am very impressed to see American Honda Corp. stepping up to the plate to help out.

Details to come but I state that Honda has been fair and stood behind its product.

So as of this morning the front lower arm compliance bushings on both sides were replaced. American Honda corporate agreed to split the labor and parts 50-50 so the total cost to me was 260.38. The offer to split the cost was done as I was out of warranty and the mileage was at 51K

I was very honest with them. I Sent them a photocopy of this thread and told them that at least three personal acquaintances have bought Pilots based on my recommendation. I also mentioned that if I wanted the hassle of dealing issues, I would have bought GM.

This was my second time dealing with Honda corporate and I am very pleased at the level of response and reasonable outcome following my letters to them. This is our first Honda and I bought It because it's the primary family vehicle and I did not want to deal with any hassle/issues. If it were my own personal car, I really would not care as much.

Now if only they would put a diesel or diesel hybrid out, I'd be set

The TSB lists the included VINs.

The TSB your looking for is 09-077. The parts listed are roughly $225 from Bernardi Parts, so I would at least push to see if they would give you a discount on the labor, or maybe do the install for free, if you provided the parts. Many times I've heard that this out of warranty repair is approved so the customer pays nothing out of pocket, but I guess you have a real butt hole of a regional manger.

Hope you can get it worked out with as little out of pocket expense as possible.

Also, just as an FYI the leaking fluid is glycol.
This link does not open for me, does it for for anyone or is it my iPhone ?

I went with this problem to a Dealership today, they started giving me a run around, like i need to balance my tires or do an alignment. And I have to pay for both. So mechanic drove my Pilot and inspected all telling me, there is no problem with the suspension at all, I even showed them the leaked out bushing, they told me some one must have put some oil on it, like I'm a complete idiot. So I found my salesman, showed him this blog and pictures and I literally raised hell in there, so after all the arguments with there mechanic, my sales man and service manager they agreed on inspecting it one more time, by the "main, most knowledge mechanic". Shore thing after 5 min. they agree to order the new compliance bushings (hydraulic bushings) and replace them for free. I have a 2010 Pilot with 40k, I just got it from them with Certified Warranty.
THANK YOU ALL FOR THIS BLOG!!!

Way to go, Serge! I hope they follow through on their promise to fix it for free. I also had a 2010 with 44k with two leaking front bushings.

Well, this is my last Honda. They refused to cover the repair on what is obviously a defective part. As a former Design Engineer for Honda R&D I can guarantee that they don't change the replacement parts this dramatically without some serious design flaws to address.

Its a shame that Honda has decided to chase a buck over quality and owner loyalty but I saw it coming before I left and am not tremendously surprised. With the competition as strong as it is Honda should really own up to this problem and make things right with its owner base.

I agree totally. This will be my last Honda as well. Honda really blew this one. They should admit the mistake and pay for the repair.

After this experience I cannot recommend a Honda to any one.

Just to add to the data pool, my 2010 is getting this done next week at a dealer covered by the warranty. I just bought this CPO vehicle 4 months ago and took it to a different dealer then we purchased it from for an oil change who said its bushings are leaking. I have not had any problems with handling or braking but read about the problems here so thought I'd get it done.

Jays10, are both of the bushings needing replacements? Also are you able to see the leak if you look from underneath the drivers and passenger doors ?

My bushings had oil trails down the backside. I also found spots of oil on the driveway under the bushings which was what led me to the failure discovery.

OK was wondering, as on my driver's side I see the rubber part showing some fatigue where small cracks are visible, I wonder if that is enough for the dealer to replace or will they deny claiming it's not leaking yet.
