Default Intermittent stereo controls - 2010 EX-L

Hi folks, I was hoping someone on here could provide some suggestions. I have a 2010 Pilot EX-L (no navi) and for some reason, my stereo controls do not work on periodically. I will get in the truck, start it up and I cannot change channels or switch from XM to FM, CD, etc. The volume button works but that is all.

The steering wheel buttons still work however. And if I turn on my headlights (or turn turn them off if at night), the controls start to work again. It is strange and obviously an electronic gremlin of some kind.

Problem is I just purchased the Pilot in the US and exported to Canada (upon which the warranty is gonzo - at least from my understanding) so i do not want to have to pay the dealership to fix the problem!

Any ideas? Thanks

Mine did the same thing, I had to have it replaced. Thankfully, it was under warranty.

Hi H-P, thanks for the quick response. Do you remember what the dealer said was wrong with the unit? I would have to pay out of pocket for it and I can only assume it is egregious.

I am hoping that there is a recall or something on it. I wonder if it can be reprogrammed or something.

I'm having a very similar periodic problem. See my thread I created today.

Two frustrating problems on 2011 Pilot Touring

I'm dreading the out of pocket cost to replace this.

I have a 2010 EX-L, no navi, and it does the same thing. While the vehicle was under warranty, I made sure the dealership noted it in our file. We have an appointment this weekend to go in and have it fixed because we have been without a radio in the car for two months. Very frustrating.
