I have an EX-L with 14,000 miles on the OEM Goodyear Fortera tires, which I haven't rotated yet. All are good except for the front passenger side tire which is significantly more worn down than the other three. I don't corner hard, and I certainly don't turn left more often than I do right, so I'm wondering what could be the cause.
Is this something worth mentioning to the dealer, or is there anything I can check? Was there a ball joint or control arm recall on the 09-11 pilot at some point? |

If you don't rotate, you'll typically wear the fronts more than the rear, but that doesn't explain a side-to-side variance. Have you had to add air to this tire to keep it up to spec more often than the others?

Right turns are tighter than left turns.
Is it front wheel drive or 4wd? Worst case scenario would be front wheel drive and a driver with a heavy foot. The right front tire would tend to lose traction on the right turn and after 14,000 miles, that could account for the extra wear you are seeing. Take a look at a pick up truck. If the tires are not rotated regularly, You will usually see the right rear tire worn much more than the left rear due to the physics of accelerating from a stop into a right turn. Bottom line Is that the good year forteras need to be rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. I use the cross rotation pattern and at 22,000 miles there is still just under 1/2 of the tread depth remaining. |

I know this is an old post, but I have an update. I still haven't replaced or rotated my tires yet since I wanted to clearly see the wear pattern. The rear tires are still fine, the front drivers side has just under 1/2 the original tread left, and the outer half of the passenger side tire is nearly bald (though the inner half still has tread left).
I mentioned this to my brother last weekend and he admitted that he rammed a curb hard while doing a u-turn when he borrowed my Pilot last year. The tire wear that I'm seeing is consistent with this incident - I'm guessing my alignment is off, my rim is bent, or both. I'm glad I know this so I can get it taken care of before I prematurely wear out a new set of tires. |

Most likely alignment. If the wheel is bent enough, you will really feel the rocking tires at highway speed (out of round, out of balance). Go to a good alignment shop where it actually sets at exactly the middle of the range, instead of telling you "ok" even if one corner is at the "min" while another corner is at the "max".
On a side note, I gave up on my Goodyear Fortera HL tires at 41k miles. One tire did not wear evenly despite following Honda's rotation schedule and pressure. The center was worn down to the wear bar. The other tires have about 4/32" left and they already have wet traction problem in light rain at local road stop and go speed, not to mention about hydroplaning. Overall, the Fortera HL's quality for size 245/65R17 is really bad - bad tread wear vs Goodyear's 60k mile rating, poor traction since about 5/32" tread left, uneven wear despite maintaining pressure and rotating regularly, and noisy (loudest tire I've ever heard) since about 20-25k miles. |

I have the same problem with the Goodyear Fortera, I'll be lucky to get two years or 30,000 miles out of them.
Allot of people are recommending the Michelin Latitude Tour tires as a replacement, which are said to ride quiet and last long. |

You should have had it aligned at the first sign of uneven wear.
Get it aligned now and buy two tires and START ROTATING.

Goodyear recoomends rotation every 6K-8K miles. And they recommend rotation at 4K for 4wd vehicles. I usually got the tires rotated with each 7.5k service of our 2005 and did not experience premature wear.

This post is spot on! I have an 2011 EX-L and the Goodyear Tires needed rotating after 14K. I also noticed the fron passenger tire was lower than all 3. However got an alignment and tires rotated. Seems to be better now. Also the steering is just a little easier to turn. However this is one thing I don't like about the pilots, when you turn its really stiff. Maybe its the short box frame or just the tires. However I don't think I'll hit 30K with these tires. I will def go with the Michelin Tires when I replace these.

Your 05 came with Goodyear Integrity, while the 09-11 came with Goodyear Fortera HL. I haven't read one single good review on the Fortera HL on this board. However, quite a few people are statisfied with the Integrity. Different model years, different tires.

I saw it before too. Does it say what size the test is based on? From real feedback on the Pilot at least (245/65R17), they never remotely close to Goodyear's 60k rating, are are crazily noisy after 10-20k miles, and poor wet traction and hydroplaning performance.
Another factor is CR probably had them in a non-OE applcation size, which might perform differently from the Pilot's OE "optimized" application. Tire Tech Information - Original Equipment (OE) Tires |

I'm just going to get all four replaced, along with an alignment.
Most of the crossover or light-duty SUV tires I looked at have bad reviews. For example, I initially liked the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Ecopia 422 (crossover-specific design) but apparently it's not so great. Another top choice which I've used on a fleet of vans that I used to manage is the Michelin LTX M/S, however the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A is $75 less (per tire). They're styled a big aggressively but apparently that's just mostly for appearance. |
