I don't post much but just wanted to pass a quick note.
We traded our 2010 Pilot LX in this weekend. Sad to see it go. Great SUV overall, excellent engineering and reliability over the two years we had it. Not one issue! Main issue for us was mileage, respectfully to Honda our LX 4WD did not get anywhere near 16mpg around town as per window sticker. More like 13/14 mpg. I could coax 16 out of it, but my wife (more of a lead-foot drive, but nothing over the top, routinely was getting 13.5). We racked up almost 29,000 miles on our LX 4wd. Highway mileage better significantly that around town, over a recent 1200 highway trip we averaged 21.2 miles per gallon with four people and gear. Not bad. We noticed a huge difference in mileage when running flat 65-70 mpg interstate. But there is a big difference between highway and around town mileage, that's what did us in. Looking back, I would recommend the Pilot for a long-term SUV, for example need to tow a boat now and then, or have a big family the Pilot is a great choice. I'll miss it. But we were putting a tank of gas in a week for around town. I'm not complaining; our choice. If gas gets up to $5.50 a gallon, which I predict it will once US economy finally recovers one of these years, that'll be $100 a week. PS: I did keep the tires aired up and maintenance very up to date if anyone thinks mileage difference was tire or maintenance related. Just passing note back, not dissing the Pilot. I'll miss it. |

Thanks for the post. Yes, the mileage can be a disappointment and a deal breaker for some. I am just wondering what you traded for and if you realize how long it will take to break even from the trade? You can buy a lot of gallons of gas for the loss on a trade.

Hi I hear U on the break even; we regretfully left the world of the SUV completely for Toyota Camry. Wanted to stay Honda and downsize to Civic but Toyota gave much higher trade in and good price on Camry. In the end it made complete sense, keep same payment monthly and cut gas price in half. We run vehicles into the ground (literally); my other vehicle is a '97 Pontiac with over 200,000 miles on it. I just kept on picturing me driving around my same Pilot in the year 2024 (then 14 years old); with gas being $6.00 or more a gallon. I hope the future makes a liar out of me on gas price prediction.

Don't think I could lose the practicality of the Pilot v a Camry sedan.

any big suv, prepare to get 20-22 mpg. I only put about 7000 miles a year on my pilot. I only drive my pilot when it snow.
It is good to have a big suv with AWD, and sedan.
