I came back from a road trip and drove on a 60 mile dirt road. When I got home I notice the rear of my car seemed very bouncy. I took my car into Miller Honda in Culver City, CA and was told they would be covered under warranty.
When it was time to pick up the car the next day they said that the bolt holding one of the shocks was broken and they needed a day or two. After waiting a total of 5 days I got a call telling me, it would not be covered after all, that my 4wd suv was not meant to drive on dirt roads? All I could say, Tell that to the Toyota prius I saw driving on the same road. When I arrived I had even better news that they broke my roof rack and left the bad shock in the back of my car? Now I am driving with 3 shocks. The dealer stated the shock was in very bad shape and the rubber was really messed up around it. All I could say was ya, I was on a long road trip in the middle of know where and had no clue there was a problem. I was even more pissed when I asked them how much it would coast if I had to pay, and they had no clue since they could not fix the broken bolt? That I would have to find a body shop to fix it. They could only give me an over price quote for the shocks. $250 per shock = $500 i read on here other people have also had back shocks, any more details? I have tried to look into after market shocks but nothing fits the 2009 Honda Pilot? If I do get stuck paying, I wanted to put better shocks that would help level the back when I put any wight into the back of the car. |

Contact Honda Customer Relations and elevate the complaint.
Information is in your owners manual and on Honda Ownerslink. I offroaded my Land Rover extensively, and had shocks replaced under warranty. Nothing in Honda's warranty booklet says no off roading. Even their adverts show Pilots being driven on dirt roads 2012 Honda Pilot - Videos - Official Honda Site Bernardi parts breaks out the parts you need-fill in model data then select chassis and select rear from the list. Their prices are much much less than you have been told. Then again, this should be warranty unless you are over the mileage. http://www.bernardiparts.com/SearchO...da-pilot-parts

Sounds like an incompetent dealership problem. Is there another one around? You can elevate the issue by asking the service manager to put you in contact with the local Honda district parts and service manager. Talking directly to the DPSM eliminates the middle man (Honda Customer Relations). Going down a dirt road that a Prius can navigate should not void any warranty.

I had a rear shock fail @ 7k. No dirt roads, just typical use. They covered it under warranty, but reading this post makes me worry the oem shocks just suck.

Honda just calls the DPSM and asks what they want to do about it. If you are still covered under the 3yr/36K warranty, I would think a defective bolt and anything it damages would be covered.

I visited Midas today for an oil change on my 2009 EX-L. When my car was finished they told me that both rear shocks were leaking. I only have 31,000 miles and basically drive to work and various stores.(I'm not climbing mountains, just running errands)
I'm assuming a bad batch of OEM shocks or poor quality choice. |
