Default Side Mirrors When in Reverse...

09' Touring:

Are both of the side mirrors supposed to 'point down' when you put the vehicle in reverse? What I'm seeing is:

If you have the side mirror switch on the door set to the middle, neither mirror goes down.

If you have the switch set to the left mirror, only the left mirror goes down when in reverse.

If you have the switch set to the right mirror, only the right one goes down.

How you've described the mirrors angling down when in reverse is exactly how it works on my 2012 Touring.

yup, that's how they work....one at a time as directed by the switch...
Check you owners manual for other neat things on the Touring.

Pick a mirror you like ( you can only choose one at a time) usually the passenger side to help you see the curb when parallel parking.

That's how it's supposed to work. It's better than my BMW because only the passenger mirror worked but only when the switch was set to the right O_o

Interesting.

I was wondering why our Side Mirrors weren't pointing down when going into reverse.

turns out it's 1 or the other not both when in center position.

Love this forum.

Little bit of an odd choice though, I have buddies with other vehicles where BOTH side mirrors tilt downward when they drop into R and they both return to normal when slid into D.

Agreed... kinda wish they both pointed down, but then people would complain about not seeing the car behind them.

Car behind will be visible in the Nav screen.
(of course, this is only true for those with back up camera)

IMO, both mirrors pointing down is unnecessary.

Agreed, why would you need to see the ground on the street side... Only need it curb side. Good design!

You can often park on the left side of one-way streets. Parallel parking in this situation is definitely easier with the left mirror being angled down to check your curb clearance. I do it a lot in the downtown of the city I live in.

Yes, and if you move the switch to the left position, the left mirror angles down. But having them simultaneously is just odd.

Don't do much parallel parking in my town... do a lot more backing into parking spots so I'd like to see both lines... but totally understand the design decision to only allow one at a time.
