Default dvd with 5.1 audio to loud and abrupt

Hello Everyone,
I've already read past posts on this topic and don't think there is any hope for this problem, but I'm just putting it out there again, in case someone has figured out a solution.

Problem: A particluar DVD only has 5.1 audio (no 2.0 audio). Playing it results in super loud dialog from the front and center speakers in order for the kids in the back seat to hear. Worse, action scenes with things like explosions or other suspensful sounds result in thunderous explosions from the rear speakers and subwoofer that practically scare me off of the road.

Has anyone discovered a solution to this problem yet, other than only playing older dvd's that have a 2.0 audio option. This particular disc was Finding Nemo, but we have lots of others with the same problem.

Thanks, Eric

my kids are 5.5 and 3.5 so when they have headsets we have an even harder time of communicating.
