Thanks whizmo.

A1 service is done at the dealer. On the paper, they charge for filter. I am assumed they changed the filter. but who know....

Well the motor oil is 1 year and 1 month. I just gonna drive and do nothing. wait for b16..

I am not taking my car to the dealer. I am doing my own oil change and VTM -4. I will take my car to walmart for tire rotation.

From my A1 calculation, I think b16 will appear at 16k.. ( normal driving condition ).

My wife drives our Pilot, and she was taking it to the dealership to get its oil changes. Then at about 28K miles, she damaged one of the tires somehow, a busted belt which sounded horrible driving down the road, but the noise was hard to isolate. At that time I took my first look at the Pilot from a maintenance perspective, to put the spare on, drive, and try to figure out which tire went bad.

Well: the dealer had not been doing all the maintenance! The tires were *never* rotated, despite being paid to do so, and I saw no evidence of anything else even checked. The air filter was disgusting. Not to mention, the dealer was pushing a bunch of unnecessary maintenance steps that were not recommended by the oem.

So NEVER again will my Pilot visit the dealership for any work.

With recommendation from a car expert, who sees hundreds of cars after many miles, I use 5W-30 Mobil 1 once MM gets around 20%. And I avoid Fram filters (I typically get a Bosch).

What's wrong with Fram filters?

Fram is an oil filter supplier to Honda.

we're at 6,500 miles on our 2012 Pilot EX-L...MM shows 40% oil life....i suppose since about 3,000 of those miles were from our two 10+ hr. trips to and from MS, that is why the oil life isn't lower...the other miles are from in-town and when my wife goes to and from work....guess i will stick with the MM till 15% and trust new technology

Frams are ok and I did use them exclusively before some investigating. Now I tend to use Wix or Purolator premium filters. There are several articles where guys have cut open the various filters and reported on the findings. Frams were always questionable quality. Don't get me wrong, Frams are probably adequate. Just not top quality like some of the others. These reports are not scientific for sure but some one did take the time to do a little investigating and I tend to believe them. They are not endorsing any one brand, just a candid observation. To wit ->Oil filter comparisons

PLM-02=the regular orange can of death. Both have cardboard endcaps. Honeywell/Fram supposedly makes them to Honda specs, but who knows. I just got 30 15400-PLM-01 for $120 shipped from eBay and they are made by Filtech, allegedly more better than the on 02 made by Honeywell.

I went to fram.com to do some research on their filter. It is a joke.

fram extra guard doesn't have anti-drain valve. tough guard and xtended guard have Silicone anti-drainback valve holds a reserve of oil in the filter to help protect the engine during start-ups..

so if honda plm-02 is same as fram extra guard, then Honda oem filter doesn't have anti-drainback valve??? please explain.

The Fram Extra-Guard has a nitrile rubber anti-drainback valve rather than the silicone rubber anti-drainback valve used in the Tough-Guard version. See attached cutaway photo.

If the cardboard end pieces bother you, you can get the Xtended-Guard version.

The Honda by Honeywell/Fram has the silicone rubber anti-drainback valve and appears similar to the Tough-Guard version, but without the SureGrip feature.

If you have your oil changes done at the dealer (or don't want to mail-order filters) and seek a "better" filter, you can ask for the S2000 filter, which is made by Filtech.

hi xgs, you solved the question I asked. so a2 is very similar to fram tough guard.. Most people don't know what they are talking about without doing research..

I also think motor craft semi-synthetic is similar to Honda OEM synthetic blend. as well as kendall..

conoco philip make oil for honda, motor craft, kendall....

Does anyone know if when you use synthethic oil the meter accounts for longer use and therefore shows accordingly?

No it does not. Nor does it know what viscosity, blend, origin or API grade or brand you dump into the crankcase.
From 0 miles or when reset it calculates remaining oil life based upon engine operating conditions and load with inpurt from EFI and other onboard sensors not from the oil itself.

Some basic helpful info:
