Default 2012 touring subwoofer bass crappy!!

Can't seem to get a nice big THUMP out of the radio on the touring. My 2010 Honda Fit Sport with 160 Watts has a bigger thump than the pilot.

Am i missing a setting somewhere? I set the BASS and Subwoofer to +6 and it still sucks.

I agree with you! My 2011 pilot subwoofer bass sucks. I'm in the process of getting a pirce quote on replacing all my speakers with BOSE or INFINITY's. According to Honda my systems puts out around 500 watts but the sound is terrible. My wife can't stand it since her previous car carried a BOSE system.

Has anyone replaced their speakers or sub yet?

Pilot come with a sub but you won't know that listening to the radio. Only time I hear any bass is when I pop in a cd. Going to do a full system upgrade soon as I finish some other mods.

Commonest upgrade for the first gen Pilots was the sucky sub. Worth taking a look at the various threads and adapt the ideas to the secon gen.

Default I feel as though I must speak here

I truly do not believe the speaker in the very back of the pilot is a "SUB" woofer. I do not believe there to be anything SUB about it & I am not real sure about a woofer part. That being said I can list a few links that might inspire you

Jeffrey, I've read that whole thread about your start of a system, and your Pilot's transformation was quite impressive. But if I remember right, you have a 2005. Does it have the same subwoofer as a 2012 (a Touring in particular)? I was just wondering if anyone has information as to what is the rating of the subwoofer on a 2012 Touring? The reason I'm asking is, if it does have a high rating, maybe it's just under powered because the factory amp is providing for 10 speakers altogether. Maybe I can get away with an additional amp that is just a dedicated for the subwoofer. If it's really puny, then a totally new subwoofer and amp is in order.

Never have been in a 12. I knew the 05 was lacking and it is hard to imagine a car manufacturer caring about a stereo system. It is just not high up on there list of important things & I really do not have a problem with that. I am much happier with them worrying about brakes & suspension instead of crossovers and sound reflections. + not everyone is into sound like me. The day a company like Honda or Toyota starts making Subs like Kicker, amps like Arc Audio and head units like Kenwood, might be the day I look at a different car company

Replace the door speaker in front and add aftermarket sub box in the rear powered by an aftermarket amp. Careful choosing your box so you can still use 3rd row seating. You will not be disappointed and have all the sound you need. I wouldn't waste your time powering the 8" factory sub or replacing it. I also installed a bass control knob to control the bass intensity which is nice between songs. Mounted it in the aux button area to the left of the steering wheel. All the speakers in the honda are single cone speakers, thus why I recommended replacing the front door speakers to get better highs. see also my other post about other issues that might pop up. Rock on...

2012 Touring stereo sounding good?

I am very disappointed with the sound of the 2012 radio! in the Touring.
On test drives, I thought, when I buy the car and have time to "set" the audio up the way I like it, the sound would be there. Wrong. Where's the 600 watts? My 04 pilot sounded better. I also listen to a lot of AM talk and news. Teribble tin can sound.
I dont want to play with the aftermarket stuff, thats why I bought the Touring. Very disapointed

You can get better sound with less speakers and powering them with a good amp. More is not always better in the case with speakers. As far as the sub goes, start with ....a SUBWOOFER, not what Honda calls ther version of a wimpy ass speaker!

Default touring radio

I'd like to know how one can test a sound system for the watts it is rated.
My system has no clarity and has no very high or very low presence.
I even pulled the fuses for the sub, the radio itself, and the RES and they are all working-slightly. So I know the're on. I sat in the middle seat to see if the amp in the RES needs to be on or a cd should be in the dvd slot, but nothing!
600 watts should be state of the art. A system does'nt have to be a Bose or Alpine to sound good. The most agravating is the -don't laugh- is the AM.
Some of the dj's don't even sound like themselves.

Hey John
I know you might not want to go aftermarket on this but if you are listening to AM and everything there sounds muffled you seriously might want to look at just some lower powered up front speakers. I would try infinity or Polk. A trip to your local installer with a strict idea of just upfront speakers could result in big returns. I would also recommend that you look at lower wattage speakers as the factory Amp does not put out much in the way of power. You get too high a speaker rating and you are just wasting money.

Default touring radio

Thanks Jeff for your thoughtful reply. I have a lot of fun customizing my other "hobby" cars. I just wish to leave this one alone. I have installed 100- 200-300-500 watt amps in other cars. Someone please tell me where Honda gets the nerve to say this amp/radio puts out 600! And by the way, where the heck is the "surround" they talk about. Even the Dolby setting does nothing that I can tell. I bet if I could find a way to test for the wattage, this Honda unit putts out no more than 30 watts! Their brochures are misleading.

600w seriously? I think it probably came close to 300w add up total! lol our stock 08 Pilot got 50w 10" sub, so the other four door speaker probably around 25-50w each? plus tweeters they may add it up probably another 10w maybe? stock speaker came with scion/honda/toyota low end car is just a joke... lol

the other day I stop by the Honda dealer to get some ATF-Z1 Fluid and take a quick look at the 2012 Pilot, 3rd row seating seems to be more of comfort design with air vent for 3rd row, interier is very roomy vs MDX/Highlander. But looking at the 8" stock sub is such a dissapontment... I see alot of downgrades from 06-08 Pilot to 09-12 Pilot. I hope that stock subwoofer space has atleast 4" mounting dept and if you can add one 3/4" MDF ring to it, put a 8" Sundown E8v2 I believe it's about 4.25"-4.5" mounting dept! plus sound deadening the right side panel, that 8" Sundown subwoofer is ain't no joke!!! low/mid/high very decent!! I test it agaisnt my 12" Polk SR124DVC 700RMS and that little beast pushing load of air through the port at 4ohms 340RMS rating, and you can check my recent thread on my stock sub upgrade the 10" Polk DB1040 270RMS 4Ohms is nothing to compare with the 8" Sundown, I'm now regreted that I returned that 8" Sundown cuz I was looking to buy the SA-8v2, but those are like 6.5" mounting dept doesn't fit in our Pilot..
