Hi everyone,
Long time lurker on the awesome site. I was wondering if anyone has had to have their timing belt changed yet. I am at 93,000 on my 2009 EX-L and I know I should be expecting it soon. Will I be prompted by the maintenance minder or should I proactively have it changed at 100,000? I know the process involves changing the water pump as well. Just looking for some tips or experience. Thanks! |

I've not had it changed but understand it is due at the 105k mile mark. I believe the MM should prompt you around this mileage or at least around an oil change close to that mark. When you have it done, consider not only the belt and water pump, but also replacing the pulleys and belt tensioner. I would also have the thermostat replaced while the coolant was drained. It's around a $600 to $1k job depending upon who does the work and how many parts are replaced. Start saving those coins!

Pre MM is 105k probably similar mileage for you. Let the system tell you when.

I see that you are in PA. Consider going to Hamilton Honda (in NJ) for the service. A few times a year they run a coupon for a $390 timing belt service. I had my Acura timing belt done there and the service was top-notch. No pitch for unneeded service and no surprises on the bill. I actually gave them a call because the coupon expired and they still extended the offer to me as well as provided a loaner for the day.
Edit: It seems that they are running the coupon right now exp 12/15. http://www.hamiltonhonda.net/specials/service.htm

Wow! I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it. I've never seen a price quoted for the job and always assumed it would approach 4 figures. That deal is almost worth driving to PA for.
