Default 7 days, 7 states, 2755 miles

We had a great road trip on our 3 month old 2011 Pilot (Touring 4x4). It performed great on snow (maybe 3 inches) and icy roads on the rockies. Only complain is MPG, only did around 18mpg but I was averaging about 79mph (mostly highways). We are a family of 4 (mom, dad, 7yr and 5yr).

Here's our trip in short: from Texas (Dallas) we went to Colorado Springs (through New Mexico). After a day there, we stayed in Vail (in Colorado) at a ski resort in the mountains. Then we drove north to Mt. Rushmore (in South Dakota) through Wyoming. A day later, we went back to Denver (through Nebraska). After 2 days in Denver, we headed home through Oklahoma (after spending a night in Wichita, Kansas). In between these, we visited small towns, museums etc.

4.5 stars for Pilot's performance (.5 star taken out for poor mpg)!

Wow, sounds great! My little ones are only good for 6 hours. I'm looking forward to longer road trips, which were a staple of family vacations when I was a kid. I love some of those places you visited.

thats good. pilot is excellent in the heavy snow. If you drive 65 mph, you could have got about 22-23 mpg. in my opinion, 79 mph is very fast.

We just took our '03 on its second long trip. The first was in '06 from Ohio-Florida-North Carolina-Ohio, with a 1yo.

Last year we did our second long road trip, but that time it was with two kids, 5 & 2. But we rented a minivan cuz the Pilot was close to due for a timing belt and I really didn't want it to fail 1000 miles from home.

This year though, with 111k miles on the clock and a new timing belt and spark plugs, we took the Pilot. It performed flawlessly with speeds mostly around 77-78, and some stretches over 80 (it helps to find a rabbit). (80 is fast, but 65 in a 70 zone just doesn't work.) Over 2,280 miles it averaged 20.1 mpg, with a high of 22.9 and a low of 18.6.

Not too shabby for an 8-year old vehicle with 113k miles! And having two kids who travel well in the car for up to 13+ hours at a time really helps too.

Sounds like a fantastic trip/vacation. Congratulations! Very few traffic lights/stop and go like the Eastcoast I'm sure. Happy you got to get in the snow and ice with your Pilot.

The Pilot is a big, safe, comfortable brick on roadtrips and unless gas reaches $8-$9 or higher, you can have your little gas-sipping vehicles. The days of flying on a whim are over for the most part so I really enjoy driving in comfort as does the wife, kid, and whoever we take with us.

Sounds like a great trip.

I consistently get 20.6mph (2009) without even trying. I drive a mixture of high speed highway miles on the weekends and big city commuting five days a week. I rarely reset my trip meter and it reads consistently 20.5-20.6. I have had it loaded to the gills with all my family members, my lab and all our bags and everyone was still comfortable.

I considered the CRV, Forester and other smaller SUVs, as well as same size SUVs like the Highlander but IMHO there was no comparison when you factor in cargo room, comfort, of course honda's reputation. My daughter is still driving my 1995 Accord with almost 300K miles. :-)

I think you'll love your Pilot as much as I do mine.

We have had our 2011 pilot 4wd for 3 months. My wife drives 75+ on the highway and only averages 18.3 mpg. I take the wheel and drive 60-65 and get 21, but I have to admit I am nursing it.

About to do a 1900 in two days again with a break in between covering 10 states with a few hundred extra during the break just to keep the kids from getting soft. This time next year my teenager will get drafted to drive....
127k at the start. Tires with 20k on them timing belt with 15k. The only preventative maintenance I've done is replace the radiator before it fails. Most friends have lost their radiator around 100-125k, while one has the original with up to 200k on the clock.
