The first question I always ask is whether you are relying on the Pilot's mileage readout or doing the math. Becuase 300 miles on 21 gallons actually puts you just above 14mpg. Second, you say "mostly highway." In only 30 miles, you don't have enough wide open road to take advantage of the averaging effect of highway mileage. I took my 2011 to San Diego, about 300 miles, and even with city on both sides I got 19.5 mpg, give or take. Driving 30 "mostly highway" miles on a 300-mile tank and you can't expect to see any benefit of the higher highway mileage. 14.28 (300/21) is very realistic for the driving my wife does around town. 16.8 "mostly highway" is not unreasonable. Take a nice 200-mile drive and see what you average. The Pilot's mileage is just not very good, especially considering the middle-of-the-road power numbers. But, I expect to be paid back with a decade of trouble-free operation. So, short answer, you're fine.

I get about 20 to 21 highway mpg. well I didn't buy pilot for gas mileage. the most important is reliablity. ( don't want to go to shop ). safety. resale value.
Toyota/Honda= never break.

No big deal, I was just expecting a little more I guess. You are right in that 30 miles isn't much at all to analyze. I just figured at a steady 65 MPH, the MPG should have calculated a little higher.

Yes, Jim.
Of course, Jim. Anything you say, Jim. Whatever . . . . Jim!
