Default Pilot Navigation problems

Hello.
I got a check from American Honda Motors.
I have 2011 pilot touring with 500 miles my nav system giving me wrong direction
They have no fix
I ask for exchange EX-L model without nav
Honda rep: No
Honda rep: We will give you new map when it comes out
I ask is it going to fix the problem.
Honda rep: No
Honda rep: The nav is design to give wrong direction (they have the conversation tape)
I file small claims to American Honda Motors
At small claims court
Honda rep: He doesn’t like the nav because of preference
Judge: This is not about preference issue
Honda rep: Nothing
Judge: Does your new map will fix the problem
Honda rep: No
I got a check for price difference between Touring and EX-L
Don’t get cheated out from Honda They have junk nav charging us over 3k they treat you like you are nobody, they play number game see how many people sue us. I try to work with American Honda Motors only thing I got offers was cargo net and new updated map. Well look who is going to bank.
Fladeboe Honda in Irvine help me the most
Honda world in Westminster where I purchased the car was the worst. They are liars especially finance manager. They don’t care after they sold their cars.

A little hard to follow but sounds like a great outcome. Congratulations. What wrong directions did it give you? Like, once, or many times?

It makes you go wrong direction, my destination is on right side but tells you go left, It want you to take wrong freeway on ramp, 1/4 mile short or 1/4 mile pass destinition, etc so far 65% wrong. I or my wife don't use the system anymore.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.....and congrats on winning a court case against Honda...

But I have to say, I have been using the nav in my 2007 pilot every day for 5 years and it's a killer system. The only glitches I have are when they do major construction work in areas or highways and the maps aren't reflecting what's been done. But I don't see how that is Honda's fault or any nav systems fault. If roads are rerouted due to construction and the building of new roads, a new map should fix that problem.

Problem is that Honda hasn't updated their map data in several years. A section of 95 south of Baltimore was rerouted 3 years ago. Still hasn't been updated in the latest maps for the 2007 Nav system. The updated road location is available as it's correct on the GPS app on my iPhone. But on a positive note, Honda did add a bunch of POI's.

My Touring does the same exact thing. I hate it!!! I bought the Touring for $4000 more wanting the navigation and dvd entertainment system. If I had know about the navigation I would have bought the EX-L with the entertainment center for much cheaper. How did you go about doing the small claims? How much did it cost?

The maps, updates and software come a company called NAVTEQ, . For some reason they are not listing Honda/Acura but they are the company responsible for map updates not Honda.

That's something I noticed, on my father-in-law's Lincoln Navigator and testing driving the Pilot with NAV, that the OEM GPS navigation is literally years behind the Garmin and Tom-tom units. Both in road updates and features. Not only that, the Garmin and Tom-tom are also both much more user friendly and understandable.

What really stinks is Honda could fix a lot of the Nav issues with a software upgrade but I bet they never will. Just like many other companies nowadays, they are focused on the next generation products. It only leaves a 'skeleton' crew to support the current generation products. If you're listening Honda, prove me wrong and release a Nav update to fix some of the shortcomings. I'm not talking about just a map database update. I'm talking about making the interface more intuitive. If you want to beta test Honda, I'll gladly volunteer.

My 2011 Honda Pilot Touring has since I bought it new had a problem with the NAV where it would intermittently, maybe once out of every 4-5 entries, it would literally take you to a wrong address and announce you at destination even though you were miles from address entered as destination. We can't trust it and sadly rely on our $150 Garmin when it is important. Not a good thing in a $44,000 vehicle with a very expensive factory NAV.
Have not been able to get it to do that for the Honda Service guys however. Am now scheduled for diagnostic test next week.
Any thoughts or suggestions from you folks?
Thanks for the opportunity to vent.
Mike

Question Update: NAV problems.....

[QUOTE=rocky;416298]Set out on a trip with passenger taping it on cell phone.

UPDATE:The Pilot has been returned to a Honda service dealer and this time with dealer address showing in NAV unit and it was showing a destination 2 miles from their address. There was no doubt then that there was in fact a serious problem with the NAV. That Honda service dealer has given us a loaner vehicle and during the two weeks that they have had the car, they first tried some kind of hookup (satellite, they said) with American Honda Technicians and they tried to isolate and make repairs but were unable to do same. They have since replaced the NAV unit entirely with one sent after some days from Honda....it still failed to operate as well. We are now waiting for a different NAV disc that is being sent from "back east" as this new unit requires a newer disc, I am told. I do believe they are trying their best but there is obviously a real problem with at least some of these NAV units.
