I finally got the chance to finish this project that I had been putting off a while, installing 'lexen' LED puddle lamps on the OEM black side steps.
Bought 2 packs at ebay a while back. LED WHITE 2X 12" SUPER BRIGHT EXTERIOR STRIP 15SMD l#w6 | eBay I used 2 strips per side (one pack came with 2 strips). On top of using the 3M double adhesive that was included to keep it from going anywhere, I applied clear silicone on the LED strips to seal it waterproof shut. Here are some installed pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't get the chance to take detailed pics on the install. It took me a whole Saturday to do it because I was multi-tasking other stuff . Took my sweet time to do a clean install, especially the wiring harness, used the premium lighted running board instructions to tap the wiring that's in-sync with the doors. I really like the sharp cutoff, now I hope it lasts a long time... The LED strip I bought matches with the LED door and license plate bulbs that I installed in the past. Bought it at the same seller at ebay. I figured it would be kinda funny if the LED bulbs don't match.

Off topic, Humanoid...nice avatar! If I'm not mistaken, is that the old toyota logo which means 'toyopet'? A relative of mine used to own a '77 toyota corona and the mud flaps has that logo...

Andrew, always impressed what you have done to your vehicle. Very nice indeed!

Looks great. Do you know where I get the wiring diagram? on-line? Links???
My Lighted Running boards were already installed when I recently bought my 09 Touring used, so I don't know anything about the wiring.... I'd like to add a switch so I can turn on just the existing lighted running boards (without activating any other interior bulbs!) and also have that turn on puddle lamps that I'll add like yours.... Maybe I will need a relay of some type so that the running board and puddles can be turned on without activating any other door or interior bulbs??? Make sense? |

Thank you everyone for the comments! I'd figure I needed to do it before it gets too cold outside or else I'll NEVER get the chance to do it and stare at the LED strip lights that was sitting on my garage table for a couple of months ![]() Above is the video I used to source the power. The difference is that I can't have the OEM connectors at a practical cost so I used 3M ones and tapped onto it. Also, I just poked the grommet and ran my insulated harness in/out the floor and sealed it with clear silicone. I think I kinda understand what you want to achieve. If you want a separate relay/switch independent of your doors so the lights will go on independently without the interior lights, then you can still do so by tapping your relay to a constant 12V source under the dash without the key (make sure it is fused too, and this will power your independent puddle lights/lighted running boards), and use the separate switch and tap it to the door source from the wiring described in the YouTube link above. You're best bet is to have the OEM service manual that you can purchase to know the diagrams and customize your wiring harness from there. I've seen this feature in certain Expedition and Escalade models. Is this what you are trying to do? I've thought of it in the past but I just don't have the time (and patience) like I used to so I just went ahead with what I did. Nevertheless, it was still worth it 'coz my wife is happy!
