Default Pilot 2012 (official) Reviews

I thought I would start a thread which tracks the 2012 Pilot reviews by the official automobile reviewers (as distinguished from us 2012 Pilot owners)

Below is the first one I've seen

Review is spot on with what I am seeing in the truck. I like to think it's a bit more of a stylish box.

Still no mileage champ, that's for sure. From the test:
FWD test vehicle registered 15.4 mpg (6.49 gallons per 100 miles) in mixed city-suburban use, 25.1 mpg (3.98 gal./100 mi.) in mostly highway driving. AWD registered 15.2 mpg (6.58 gal./100 mi.) in mixed city-suburban use. Burns regular, holds 21 gal.

This just goes to show personal preference based on the author. A lot of the "experts" complain about the look of the Pilot, but I like it better than say the Traverse. The Traverse looks like some engineer decided to make a van more "sporty". The Pilot boxy look I think defines what it is, an SUV, and looks sharp.

Let's be honest, space-wise, for the price was there really any doubt? ;-)

Motorweek has been, from what I have seen, very nice to the Pilot for several years now. More so than many other reviewers.

I am 3 states away from home right now. When I did a fill up and stayed on the highway only, no wind I was getting 25.5mpg (from the trip computer).

I hit a head wind during the next fill up, all highway, and was getting 20.5. City (Pittsburgh) I have been showing 17.5-19.0.

Here is another comparo in which the Pilot won.

Honda Pilot tops shootout among seven 3-row SUVs ? USATODAY.com

I test drove a 2012 Pilot EX, and on the highway I was getting 25 to 26 mpg at 70mph. Impressive for such a large vehicle.

2012 Honda Pilot Review by Joe Wiesenfelder

"The Honda Pilot was one of the first car-based SUVs of its size, and though nine years on the market doesn't guarantee relevance, Honda has kept the model competitive in the face of growing challenge. There were other SUVs in our Shootout that we singled out as the sporty one, the roomy one or the smooth one, but the Pilot rose to the top because it represents an excellent balance of features, performance and other characteristics, even without excelling at any one. What solidified its position was our test vehicle's equipment levels, which Honda has wisely reinforced to keep up with the new, more competitive market.
