Default A different kind of upgrade and I need help with the guts of my Pilot.

So I am going to undertake a new project. Having just replaced 2 window motors on our 00 Nissan, I feel a bit more comfortable with accessing the nooks and crannies of a car.

For years, I've had the following sitting in hte attic:

Nathan AirChime K5LA Train Horn (K5)

I want to install them in my Pilot. I know I am going to have to take the 5 horns apart and attach to the underside of the Pilot. Also, I will have to run airline, a manual valve and attach an air compressor and air tank.

If anyone could offer advice on how to access various parts in the underside. Please advise.

Why? Have you ever been close to a train when it blows its horn?

These horns are amazingly loud and will stay that way for years! Constructed of a die-cast manifold and bells with pre tuned single piece bell housings the K5LA is one of the most durable horns built. It features a patented double-disk stainless steel diaphragm that eliminates the typical pitch drop experienced in most air horns. This is a one of a kind sound in the air horn industry and makes this horn one of the most stunning horns around!

You're an ass if you put this in your car

Definitely enough noise to wake grandma from a deep sleep in the second row.

I've plumbed off roaders for air lockers and tire inflation. If you can't mount the air compressor close to the battery, you will have to find someplace to secure in in the trunk. There may be enough room for the Viair compressor in the trunk "tray", however you will need VERY thick wiring to power it. For the tank, I would remove the spare, and bolt it into place under the vehicle. That's where I would guess you have enough space for the horns. And yes, while you are at it, you might as well plumb the car for tire inflation duties.

Don't skim on pressure switches and safety items.

How on earth you are going to stop kids playing with the switch to the Daddy train I have no idea......

You must have some serious a**hole drivers there in NY to want to install that beast. I wish you luck and would love to see / hear that baby in action when complete.

The hornblasters video of what looked like a civic made me pee myself with laughter.

Agreed. I've installed air ride in a few cars and have seen a train horn added to the system for fun. If you're going to invest the time and effort to put in air management, might as well make it useful also. Put in a quick connect for tire inflation and get the Air Lift kit for the rear to help eliminate sag. GL and be sure to post pics!

If I heard someone in a big truck honk the horn, cool. If I heard someone in a Pilot honk it, I'd laugh at them.

The Pilot doesn't have the attitude to back up that kind of horn. Just my .02

Yep. I worked and ran locomotives.

Wait. I dont know you. Perhaps I shouldnt judge and perhaps you shouldn't as well. people do many things to their cars for different reasons. There is a great thread here on modding a Pilot as a rally racer.

I've toyed with removing the spare but didnt dare. But if I DO kill 2 birds with one stone as far as enabling/running line for tire inflation, maybe i could swing it.

I realize some of you are wondering why. Bottom line is these horns have been collecting dust for years. Why not use them. I happen to live near a few rail crossing where I'd sue them. And sure, I may use them to ward off any REAL threats, like NJ and NY drivers.....like hkellog above

I think what they do in the videos is funny but overkill, you know?

Dieseldad, here is my horn on a smaller car

Im actualyl working on the install on the Altima first.

But can anyone give tips/access points I can find in the Pilot? I will need to run wires maybe under the carpet or somehow behind certain fascia. Are the clips easily removable without breaking?

You are putting something in with the sole intention of scaring people who haven't asked for it...what conclusion should we draw? I am not calling you any names but I don't need to know anything else about you to at least start forming an opinion. I'm not comparing you to a terrorist but I don't need to get to know them to be able to judge their character by their actions...same deal here. Now, if you aren't going to use this like the people in the videos I would ask why bother putting it in and I just don't buy that it will be used as you say. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

I will also say that if you happen to use it on some jackhole who is asking for it and they freak out and crash you will find yourself being called a defendant.

Now that I've said that, not likely going to actually happen so use it in good health and hopefully you really will use restraint.

Supplementary air springs to keep the car level when heavily laden or towing.

Nowhere did I state my intention as the sole intention to scare others.

You've extrapolated your own conclusion. To use your parlance, if you're wrong, you're wrong. And boy are you wrong. But I do appreciate your giving me the benefit of the doubt.

Using your logic, people should not have guns because they kill. But that is another entirely different topic.

As I said, I've ran trains and its a bit of nostalgia to hear them again. I live near the rails and so the opportunity to use them is there.

Not all people who have guns are bad people and likewise, not all folks with horns are bad people
