okay.... i paid slightly under what you did out the door for my 2WD, but I guess taxes in CA killed me (around 10.3% for both tax and lic)...

This is the problem with posting an "out the door" price. These fees vary from state to state (even sometimes within a state). And dealership fees vary from dealership to dealership. It is much more helpful to just post the price paid for the vehicle with destination.

I got the exact same deal on the exact same 4x4 Pilot in Louisville, KY at Sam Swope Honda World. $34,000 on the road. The break down would be something like this:

Pilot + Taxes (6%) +Document Fees+Title License = $34,000
$31,562+1894+499+45 =$34,000.

Actually we financed for 60 months @2.9% through Honda and the finance guy nicked us for another $22. Oh well we felt like it was a good deal.

I am a gadget guy and after reading the whole manual I kind of wish we had gotten the Touring model but it is the wife's vehicle anyway.

My hometown dealer wanted $37,500 on the road for the same deal. Drove 45 minutes and saved $3500 dollars plus interest over 60 months.

Thanks to the forum for all the pricing info, it really helped. I registered here just to give a little back to the board.

Congrats, it is surprising that your hometown dealer wouldn't match or come close to the dealer you bought from. Most match when it looks like you are actually going to buy elsewhere.

I bought a 2011, EX (cloth, no leather) 4WD for the following:

Car (including destination and wire harness): $30,940
Dealer Fees: $245

Sub-Total (all you can compare state-to-state): $31,185

Taxes 6%: $1589
DMV Title/Reg: $103

OTD comparisons are meaningless.

This matches up well with Edmunds TMV and Automobile Mag data online, FWIW.

dmiraclejr and san28734--You guys got incredible deals, almost steals--Your prices for the car only are below reported true dealer costs (invoice $33+K) even after taking out the holdback ($32.6 per automobilemag.com). I should have taken a trip to Kentucky!

Getting close to pulling the trigger on a 2011 Touring 4wd to replace my 07 EXL w/RES (Nimbus Gray). The debate, take the color I want that the owner of the dealership has driven for the last month (600 miles) in Dark Cherry Pearl/Black or Polished Metal/Black with 7 miles on it. Price is $37357 +$125 dlr doc fees & TTL. They're throwing in 6 months/6000 additional warranty for the demo. Thoughts? Really like the Dark Cherry, and our last one was similar. I can't find another dealership that will match that price that has color combo in Touring.

I just purchased a 2WD touring in White Diamond Pearl for 35,099.00 plus tax and license. It was extremely hard to locate the color, my dealer ended up searching So Cal and finally found one he could trade with that was about 30 miles away.

Was a trade-in made on this deal?

I'm amazed at how crappy a negotiator I could be given that several recent posts indicate getting the car below the dealer's final cost (after holdback). The only thing I can think is that the dealers are making up the difference on the trades. Hey, maybe I am just a crappy negotiator!

That is right about at dealer cost after holdback for a 2011. Several things can drive a dealer to offer (or not offer) a great deal. Could be low demand, lotsa competition, end of the month quota for bonus or to keep allocations the same. One dealer can have higher operating costs, and so on....... Holdback is actually reimbursement for financing the vehicle sitting on the lot for a number of months. If it does not sit on the lot at all, then that is pure profit that can be bargained with.

The best thing to do is negotiate from your computer. Send a Request for Quote to the internet sales manager of several dealers in your area within reasonable driving distance. Make sure you indicate that the dealer is competing against several other dealers. Then send the lowest quote to all the higher quoting dealers and ask them to do better. Then continue the seeking the lowest quote via email.

I had no trade andpaid cash for the Pilot so no financing was involved. I was able to find this great deal by using the truecar.com website which lists the average price people have paid in the local zip code area. It shows a bell curve as far far as prices are concerned. Then it does a neat little thing where it scans for the lowest dealer offers. This is the internet tool I used and was quite sucessful with.

Truecar.com is what the Automobilemag.com site uses, but the Automag link does not take it the last step and give you the scan of local dealers. I checked for my car and I see that I did get a good deal--especially as the local dealer adds 12 months and 12K to the Honda standard warranty.

Thanks for pointing me to the TrueCar site itself.
