I visited Anza Borrego last week during my kids' spring break. We had a great trip except for the plastic skid plate coming off and folding under itself while going through some soft sand. The trenches made by other vehicles caused the center section of sand to rub the underside of the Pilot which then grabbed hold of the skid plate. The plastic grommets holding the cover on were not strong enough to hold up to the tension, I guess. Anyone know if someone makes a metal skidplate or a plastic skidplate that can be screwed on?
This is in Carrizo Marsh on the far eastside of AB (just west of the Carrizo Impact Area). Just past this is where the skid plate ripped off. ![]() ![]()

This is along Canyon Sin Nombre. There was only one rocky section that my son had to spot me on. Not having a skid plate anymore made us be extra careful. All other areas were soft sand and easy as pie to drive on.
This is on Mortero Canyon Wash Road. This is near the abandoned limestone mine called Dos Cabeza and the old SD&AE railroad. These newer train cars were just sitting there so we checked them out.
