Problem is, that any such apparatus needs to have NHTSA crash test results to go to market. It needs to be strong enough to absorb minor impacts, but also needs to have crumple zones and still allow the airbag safing sensors to deploy in the event of an accident.
It's no longer as simple as welding something up, and the opportunity cost of making them is keeping manufacturers out of the fray. I used to sell the MDX ones from a company called Tal and Hadas Offroad. Excellent quality stuff, but the company went bankrupt about a year ago. |
