So the Pilot has been the vehicle the 20 yr old has been using for his college co-op job, and last night on the commute home - on backroads in town - the pickup in front stopped, and my son not as fast..... Hood is askew just a tad, no tranny fluid dripping but it's VERY close to the tranny and PS cooler locations - will let folks know how much this little adventure costs to fix.....

Sorry to hear that. Hope your son is ok.
Not surprising that the Honda took the beating on this. The front bumper is plastic. My guess is that the truck has a steel bumper. I was rear-ended while driving my F-250. I might have had a scratch on the bumper, but his sedan was really messed up. His front bumper, both headlights and hood were badly damaged and the radiator was punctured.

Thats typical damage when the bumper heights don't match. That and the blow being at an angle.

The one hits other's rear end always loses. The front was merely pushes forward while the rear one braked hard and nose dived during the impact.

Turns out it was a ranger pickup that was in the midst of braking, thus the fact the rear bumper was kissing the grille. Damage to the pickup was a bent bumper - that's it. He was after the accident, but I think this is the "bringing him down to real life" experience he needed - he's been home from college working a co-op at home and was certainly acting like he owned the place - very subdued after this event. Reminds me of our oldest after he took out a fire hydrant during the first year of driving, and then got nabbed speeding on the way to college one day - brought him back down to reality real fast when it costs them $$ out of their pocket to make things right.

Quick update - body shops are tied up till mid-Feb around here, so had the shop I'll be using do a "quick fix" to get the hood to open, pop the bumper out and use some 200mph tape to protect the edges from flying away from the body, and we'll be able to use it till the real fix. No internal damage - yes!!! Estimate is a tick over $3000, with replacement of teh bumper, grille, facia, headlight, internal brackets/hood hinges, and repair of the hood (although the shop figures the insurance will authorize a new hood once they start - but playing by insurance rules). Upside? The blotchy paint on the hood will be gone after this!! Not necessarily how I'd want it to happen, but....
