Thanks....

To answer your question is because you had already bought it!!!! In all seriousness...no EXLN 4WD on the lot to be had and I didn't want to wait. And I already have an AVIC in another vehicle. The AVIC-d1 will do a rear camera if desired...but won't do voice. It will do a host of other features that the factory one won't easily comply to....i.e. TV control...zoning video...etc. The AVIC-N1 (single DIN) will do voice as well.

Don't get me wrong though...if I had my druthers....I would have purchased the factory unit for the overall integration with the climate control etc. Just couldn't find one locally with 4WD. Going factory NAV w/ aftermarket RES would have been about another $1K more expensive by the time done though as compared to path I took.

Thanks for the kind words....

The DVD player in the lower console and the LCD overhead are both Alpine and come in the PKG-RSE1 kit. The DVD is Alpine part number DVE-5207. The LCD is a 10.2 inch WVGA screen with below the screen controls for the DVD as well as for alpine TV tuner. Kit also had a small RCA control box that has two inputs (one for DVD, one for what ever you choose....I went with the AVIC's AV--TV) and one output (I piped the Alpine's DVD signal to the AVIC). The LCD screen also has game RCA ports. The LCD has a source switch included for DVD, TV, and Game.

:SOME EXTRANEOUS INFO ABOUT THE SYSTEM:
The end result allows a combination of activities on the screens. So for example:
Front / Rear
NAV / DVD
TV or NAV with TV audio / DVD or Game or TV
DVD or NAV with DVD audio / DVD
XM or NAV with XM audio / DVD or Game
Radio or NAV with Radio audio/ DVD or Game
Game or NAV with Game audio / Game

The LCD is hardwired into the AVIC for both video and sound....but it also includes a wireless FM modulator and wireless headset. What ever is playing from the front screen (whether shown or not) is what is heard over the speakers.

Since TV comes from the AVIC and the DVD and Game come from the Alpine, some combinations cannot be accomplished as the AVIC doesn't power the TV unless it is selected to be on and the ALPINE doesn't power the DVD unless it's selected through the source button from the rear LCD. So no combinations like DVD in front and Game in back. Or XM in front and TV in back.

Best thing about that LCD is the narrow footprint when closed and the silver color to match the steering wheel. It really does look nice with the interior.

Back to your question about installation of the DVD upfront. I didn't snap any pictures of the install but it is straight forward as far as getting the Alpine to stay there. The EXL has vertical brackets holding the AC controls, seat heaters, and an open slot for another module. The open slot has two screw holes in each bracket and one screw hole will line up on each side with the Alpine DVD player. I had to buy the RES black vertical trim for the center console stack so that my stack would be longer and generate space for the install. This RES trim is the part that has the ash tray and cig lighter as part of the assembly. I squezed the Alpine unit barely into the space that was generated with the longer trim and then modified a Honda DIN trim ring from the MP3/cassette player to fill in between the seat heat bank and the alpine. I still need to fabricate and fill in the sides of the Alpine unit where the Honda DIN trim failed to cover. Likewise....I need to fabricate a trim bezel for the AVIC.

How is that for a long winded explanation?

6 pin towing light adaptor with electric brakes
Can you post a close-up of the way the 6-pin wiring adapter is mounted, and tell me how you went about wiring the brake controller? Thanks.

Will do. I'll get another picture this weekend of that unit. It is basically a Wally World 4 pin to 6 pin converter that allowed me to literally plug in the factory wire harness into the back of the 6 pin. Then all I had to do was run the brake wire from the controller to the 6 pin adaptor and hook up the ground, brake switch, and 12volt up front for the controller. I didn't run the trailer accessory 12 volt. I mounted the unit on the hitch at the same hole the 4 pin honda adaptor was mounted. The new 6 pin adaptor has both a socket for 6 pin lights with brakes as well as the 4 pin lights.

Sorry for the lateness of this photo. But better late than never. Just plain ole forgot. What I did to mount this was to use the factory bracket from the 4 pin wiring and its bolt to mount the 6 pin adaptor using the same hole. Just barely fit. And it is solidly retained by just this one bolt. The 6 pin's bracket rides on the hitch and overhangs it a little as seen in the picture. This particular adaptor is a cheapie 6 and 4 pin adaptor from Wally World.
