Default Lake Tahoe Snow and my new CT's

So, I finally broke down and bought new tires for the rig. Snow was in the forecast and my (un)Integritys had been diagnosed with poor tread life (33K - due to a alignment problem mis-diagnosed by the dealer). I was having a tough time deciding on Michelin CT's or Goodyear Forteras. I finally decided on the CT's due to the poor experience I had with my Goodyear (Un)Integritys and the great reputation Michelin has.

So, I packed up the family and headed for the mountains. Sure enough, chains were required at 5000 feet for 2 wheel drive vehicles. I passed through the checkpoint and tested out the Pilot for the first time in the snow (at the time there was about 6" of snow on the road). It was fantastic! Not one feeling of slippage on the snow. The next morning, at Lake Tahoe, I woke up to find 12" of new snow on the ground! What a beautiful sight!

Anyway, the snowplow had plowed a burm 2 1/2 feet tall in front of where I parked the Pilot. Rather than back up and drive around it, I decided to lock in the VTM and go through it. Went right over it without a problem. The drive home was through deep powder and I had no problem with traction (although plenty of cars were fishtailing all around me). Funny note: At the chain take-off point I saw a man taking chains off of his Pilot and wondered why he had put them on in the first place...???

All in all, a great going up the mountain in snowy conditions vehicle!

That's a lot of snow. Thanks for sharing the experience.

Yeah, it's spring here all winter unless it's raining...

WOW Jet Pilot 64, beautiful pictures. Cute baby too. (Rumors are the baby has your good looks but then again we all knew somebody took them away from you! snicker. )

Seriously, thanks for the photos and the traction in snow report, good the hear it.

BTW I used to live just south of Roseville in Antelope Ranch. Did you know about the town of Antelope that was literally blown away when an Army ammo train blew up in the 70s? Supposed to bring the zip code back for Antelope but when we left, we were still called Sacramento.

Yes, I totally know about the railyard 500 pound bombs. Not sure if you know, but they found a bunch of non-exploded ones a few years back and had to detonate them. Quite a stir!

Gorgeous pics Jet-Pilot-64! They're just like post card prints.

We were there during the first week of March and I took my pilot up to Truckee a couple of weeks after picking-up my Pilot mid-February. No snow on the roads and spring skiing conditions. The Pilot drove like a dream and my back didn't kill me like it does in other cars on long trips. It was like sitting in a nice leather easy chair.

Can't really tell yet as it has been rainy here in the valley. I do notice that they handle much better. There's a portion of highway here I always drive on that has patchwork right where my passenger tires normally track. The (un)Integritys would get caught in the rut and literally pull into it. Yesterday, I went in the same rut and noticed no pull. The new tires are much more "sure-footed."
