Default '03 Pilot - Front passenger air vent

My front passenger air vent has broke. Not the vent below the radio, but the far right closer to the window. It's broke in the sense that you can't grab that middle adjuster part and point the air up or down.

I know that the part number I would need is this.
Part# 77623-S9V-A02ZB
Description: OUTLET *NH361L*

The honda dealership wanted some high figure like $350 to fix it. I can't remember their reasoning for it being so high. I'm guessing the labor because there is a lot to take a part to replace it? The part is only $40.

I would describe myself as an advanced beginner in the DIY realm and can usually get it done if there were step by step descriptions with pictures. I can't however find anything on the internet on replacing this part. If anyone has done this, about to do this can they please post if its worth attempting on your own and/or post a walk through. Thanks!

My car: 2003 Honda Pilot 5DR EXL (RES)

Once you get the radio removed you should be able to get it sorted.

Unfortunately it's not the vent below the radio, it's the one closer to the door.

Do you have the piece that broke off? Can you glue that piece back on?

Obviously you want to do this, so my cheapskate idea of ignoring it wont work! I think you are a perfect candidate to buy the shop manual. This can be done in paper form or online with Alldata.

First attempt would be based on the picture to see if there is a tab that can be pushed to one side to release the vent from the dash. Take a thin putty type knife and see if it will slide in. If it pops out great your problem is probably solved.

Plan B: go at it like you would replacing the air filter for the HVAC system, but completely remove the glovebox and start peering up to where the ductwork to the vent is located. Just hoping you can release the vent easily!
