Default Crankshaft main center cap bolt leaking oil

Hey Newbie here,

I am the original owner of a 2004 Honda Pilot with 132K miles and have a Crankshaft main center cap bolt leaking oil and need advice or help, please.

I was told by the dealer about 5 months ago it needed to be replaced, but commented that it wasn't that bad. I am a DIY, so any pictures or experienced persons would be greatly appreciated.

Uh, the crank main-caps are covered by the oil pan. If you can see them you have bigger problems than a small leak. :\

Maybe the front main seal? How about a pic of the leak?

I don't have a pic of the leak. I am just going by what the dealer told me and am trying to figure out what exactly to do. It does show a little bit of oil leaking out of the oil pan screw, but never enough to warrant adding any oil. I never let it get much off the top notch on the dipstick.

How do I confirm the dealer's diagnosis

At least for me I am having a tough time picturing where the leak is. Leaks from the front main seal (far passenger side) seem really uncommon. Leaks from the rear main seal (a little to the drivers side of midline) are not common but do happen. A pic at least of where it is dripping from would help.

I will post a pic tomorrow. I guess based on 94eg's comment of the Crankshaft main center cap bolt being covered by the oil pan, I wonder how they could make the diagnosis? A novice at DIY auto mechanics.

If your not getting dripping onto your garage floor, then I wouldn't worry about fixing it at this stage.

Sounds like he's talking about the oil drain plug. What did the dealer recommend as far as repairing this? How much did the quote for the repair?

If its due to stripped threads on the oil pan, there was a post here last year about one other Honda model that has the same drain plug but with longer threads on it. I think it was one of the hybrid models.

It's not an oversize bolt, just one with more threads which can grab the hood threads remaining inside the oil pan.
