Started replacing the spark plugs on my '07 Pilot. The old thread posted by Skamp is very helpful, but after changing the front 3 plugs, I've arrived at the back three(closest to the dashboard). Is there a trick to getting access to those plugs? I can barely see the coil packs, and in fact can locate only 2 of them. Do I need a mirror set up along the back wall to do this? Thanks in advance.

I did mine one month ago. No, you don't need a mirror, I did mine by touch. Having done the front 3 first you should have a feel for how the parts fit together.
Long arms will help, good luck. |

Wish someone had told me this: be VERY CAREFUL when removing the back side spark plugs. The tight access makes it hard to hold your wrench perfectly straight in this job. I nearly stripped out #1 plug, its thread was badly corroded for some odd reason (it wasn't very tight) - the other 5 were clean and shiny. I was able to use a torque wrench to get them "just right" hopefully prevent corrosion in the future. Good luck!

use 2 small 3 inch extensions when removing them. when the first one bottoms out when coming out, then remove it and the rest will come out with no issues. be sure to use anti seize paste when putting them back in.

Don't be afraid to lay across the top of the radiator and engine to reach those rear plugs. That is much easier than trying to be a contortionist and working by feel only.

I used a step stool to give me a little more height. Then kind of layed across the engine, and was able to see. I also had a couple plugs that were pretty tight. The 2 extensions method worked well, it is a tight fit back there. Just take your time, and complete one plug at a time.
I also used a little anti-seize on the new plugs. Good luck. DB |

Wasn't as hard as I first anticipated. I put some padding on the hood latch area, and just laid down across the engine bay. I was able to get right up in there, and see the coils & bolts just fine.

I did use a mirror just to have a look at the setup, then put it aside. I was afraid I would knock it down and it would get stuck there.
It's not so hard. Using 2 short extensions on your wrench definitely is the way to go.
