I am getting my moms 2007 pilot EX-L with a navigation. I want to keep the navigation but get new subs and speakers. Does the navigation head unit have enough power for this or will i need to replace it?

it has enough power to run a set of aftermarket door speakers but if you want to reap the full benefits of a sub, youll want to replace the head unit. you can find an amp with line level inputs, and tap into the factory sub but in my opinion they dont sound very good compared to the options you have when you put in a unit with RCA outputs for the amp.

Depends how far you want to upgrade per sound quality. Honestly, the stock system sounds pretty good, and great results can be achieved by upgrading the factory subwoofer with an amp and ported sub box. Then you simply turn the bass down to the factory speakers so they do not distort or clip at 1/2 to 3/4 volume. Todays amps can be wired with low level inputs (rca lines) or high level inputs (speaker wire) that you splice off the rear speakers. I have a 600 watt Pioneer Mono amp $135 running a JL audo 10" ported sub. (HO110RG-W3v3) $289. It sounds incredible, and the pioneer amp comes with a remote volume control I mounted next to the slide out ashtray for quick bass adjustments. The factory sub should be disconected from the back and the wires well protected against shorts for the system to sound the best. I did the entire install my self but best buy could also do this for you. Anyone who hears my system is blown away. I also have the factory navigation unit. Eventually, I replaced my head unit with an in dash DVD, and although I lost the voice directions on my Navigation unit, ALL other features of the navigation work just fine! The hardest part of this install is no one makes a dash kit for the navigation equiped pilots who's stereo is in the lower position. I simply ordered a dash kit for the upper mounted stereo, and used the face plate provided with my head unit to make a perfect install.
