Default First post- help please!

Hello All-
I have a 2006 EXL with 90+K miles. I love it, but it has recently lit up several warning lights at the same time and in various combination's including VTM-4, AVS, Brake & ABS.

I called my local Holland, MI Honda dealer and asked how much it would cost to diagnose the problem. I was told it would cost $55- OK.

After waiting an hour, they told me that it had popped ten codes and that it would take more time and money to identify any code causes.

The codes were:
U0122, B117, 61-1, 83-1, 86-1, 112-1, 41-1, 77-1, 36 & 38.

Sometimes the warning lights are all on, sometimes just VTM-4, and sometimes no lights are on.

I had the 18 month old Honda battery checked and it was fine as was the
charging system.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can rectify the situation before taking off to Florida later this month? Is there a common device involved in all of these codes\warning lights.

Thanks!

There is no noticeable noises or strange driving vibrations?

Check for loose connections at the battery, do an oil change, maybe rotate tires and check air pressure in them as well. If your gonig to Florida, have all of the fluids changed just for peace of mind. I am no mechanic by any means but I would do all of the small things first to see if that would help solve any of the warning lights.

Two things stand out to me.
1: The codes are intermittent unless I am reading your post incorrectly. How is the car running.
2: There is a tremendous variety of codes reported from many different parts of the car. Braking, transmission, emissions etc

While there are codes reported, it is not an assurance that there is anything wrong. Not only can codes be thrown by bad sensors, but also by bad electricity.

Assuming all the appropriate fuses are ok, I want you to get a second opinion on the battery and have the alternator checked. Autozone will do these for free. Right now I'm very suspicious that the alternator's electronics may be failing and sending out bad "juju" or power which is messing everything up.

Given the randomness of the error codes, I suspect either a low voltage or a bad ground to the ECU.

When the battery was tested did they do a load test or just check the voltage. Just checking the voltage gives no indication of capacity. Also, when the engine is running, the voltage at the battery should be at a higher, steady voltage compared to when the engine is off. Otherwise, the alternator is bad.

If his alternator was bad his car would die from a discharging battery. I suspect a bad ground, sensor or ecu problem.

With that many codes I would have it checked out, especially if your taking a trip.

I saw in another thread that someone had the same symptoms and mentioned at the end of their post that a couple of months earlier, they had the gas cap warning- I had the same thing about that long ago- coincidence?

Where is the ECU, so I can check for good connections?

Thanks for all the input!
