Default new Pilot guy here

Hey guys just picked up a really nice near mint condition 2003 Pilot EX, 105k it's in excellent shape , clean car fax, great service history..
found it at a Ford dealership it was a recent trade in, with 2 days left in the month and end of the year coming, they had it listed for 8500 i talked them all the way down to 7,200 with some brutal negotiations..

look forward to learning more about these, i normally service all my own vehicles, have had many Turbo Lex's, Supra's, and Mustangs to place with, always had great luck with Toyota's and Honda's knock on wood!

wish my pilot was a later year with leather and Nav, but for $7200 i'm not complaining..

Welcome aboard! Do you have a copy of the service records for it? The timing belt, water pump and coolant should have all been done already. Also, there was a tranny recall for 2003s.

They printed out a carfax for me at the dealer, it alot of normal maintenance from honda, intitially I left the dealership because they didn't want to meet me at my price so they ended up calling me back and i didn't think at the time to ask for another copy of the carfax since i looked it over the first time they printed it out, I know the Timing Belt and waterpump where done at 86k I have the paperwork for that..

What's up with the Trans? guess i'll do some searching, i'm very very paranoid about honda auto tran's mainly V6 ones lol.. I've had good luck with our 2002 Accord 4cyl automatic we just sold but I've always heard horror stories about Honda Auto V6 trans, part of the reason i was afraid to buy a pilot but it was such a good deal i felt like pretty confident..

guess i'll read up on the recall

Call any Honda dealer with your VIN and I'm sure they can tell you if the tranny recall was performed on your Pilot or not.

You can find out if the recall was fixed by signing on to Honda's Owner Link website. Also, the 2003 Pilot recently became part of an airbag recall.

definetly appreciate the info guys!

roarkrd yeah i just happen to come across that reading the forums, didn't see alot of info on it but i'll check into that as well..

also was gonna ask, my Pilot seems pretty complete but in the front center console under the slide, there are like two divided sections, is there a removeable cup holder that should be there? I see soo many cupholders in this pilot but up front i don't have any true cupholders..

also on the rear is there a cargo cover? all i have in the rear is the carpeted mats and in the hidden cargo area i have a cargo net and headrests for my thirdrow seating, is there supposed to be a cargo cover that comes with it also?

Yes, up front you should have two cup holders under the sliding door. As for the cargo cover, I'm sure they make one but it doesn't come with the car.

Put a transmission cooler and external filter on ASAP. If the recall work has been done then you are good to go. But don't rely on just the recall work.

Have a look on youtube where they over haul your transmission. That buried filter is a killer.

that sucks honda has such issues with automatic transmissions, When i had my 2003 EX accord everyone on that forum was putting coolers and external filters on as well.. just ridiculous you need to go to those lengths to protect a unmodified vehicle..

i'll do some reading and see what the standard setup is on here.

I think that airbag one is an old one, see if this one pops up: https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/Docume...se_0000030.pdf

What do you mean by old one? They are suppose to start sending out the recall papers later this month. The recall itself isn't new, but the fact that is was expanded to the 2003 Pilot is.

I thought that one was because they were deploying late and the other was that they were deploying too hard and bursting. I'm really not sure, I guess just punch in your VIN and see if anything is outstanding for your car.
