Sound from under the hood, sounds like power stering fluid is low. Checked it, and was full. Never a problem with this 2006 Pilot with 85K miles bought new from dealer. Any Ideas?
PS. Very cold morning today when first started. (well, cold for California) About 30 degrees outside... |

Bad o-ring on the suction hose from the reservoir to the pump. It's 50-70 cents and take 10 minutes to change if you got a 10mm wrench and a towel. You won't even lose but a few dribbles of PS fluid. New o-ring should be orange and the old one is black. Honda has a service bulletin on this issue. I've changed out 3 so far on various Hondas and I'm not even a mechanic.
The sound is caused by the o-ring letting air into the pump when it's cold cold. The air then makes it way to reservoir and returns to the atmosphere. What you can do is start your car. If you hear the noise, shut it off and check the PS fluid under the cap. If you see bubbles, you know this is your problem. It's #17 part number 1345-RDA-A01. You just remove the $22 bolt and unplug the hose to replace it. Keep a rag stuffed in there to soak up any spillage:

Fixed it! O-ring was $1.69 at the Clovis Ca dealership. 10mm wrench and a couple of shop rags. About 20 minutes and a few drops of PS fluid later, done deal!
Thanks for the help! Rhino |

You can hear it as soon as you start the car. And it changes as you turn the wheel while you are sitting still. It's very loud and you won't miss it if your radio is off.
