Hey guys, just bought a 2008 exl with RES for my wife. Ive been a Lexus guy all my life so this is all new to me. Anything specific I should be aware of with these vehicles? Any tips at all would be appreciated.
Thanks again |

The trannys (like the smaller Lexus SUV's) are not the strongest in the world. Lots of us over maintain by doing frequent drain and fills, never flush. The rear differential takes a Honda proprietary fluid that is a lot like ATF. You want to drain and fill it regularly too. Transfer case takes old school gear oil and is pretty stout. Oil changes are stupid easy. VTM4 button is not something that you normally will use, only if you get stuck. It locks the rear differential like a spool. A valve adjustment as you get close to 100k miles is often needed (unlike Lexus that never seem to need them) most wait until they have the timing belt done at 105k. Cabin filter is a pain in the a$$ but not that bad after you have done it once. There is a screen in the center console on the driver's side for the rear vents that you want to vacuum out from time to time. Tim from here: Discount Honda and Acura parts and accessories - OEM Acura Parts is a site sponsor and a great place to get OE parts for a good price. Do you diy maintenance or have it done? Very easy car to wrench on for the normal stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I diy things like oil changes, brakes, filters, tires, all the minor stuff. At least I do in my GS300 and my Explorer.

There are a ton of DIY threads on here in the maintenance area. The MDX is identical for a lot of things. Good thread here: 2001-2006 MDX FAQ Thread - Acura MDX Forum : Acura MDX SUV Forums

Yes, 01-06 MDX are going to be very similar to an 08 Pilot. MDX got redesigned in 07 and they made a bunch of changes that won't cross over to a pilot. 04-06 MDX is most like the newer Pilots. The bulk of the maintenance DIY stuff will be the same.
