Default Navi won't dim when head light turned on

Hi, so on our 2006 EX-L the Navigation screen will not dim when the head light are turned on.
I have to manually enter the setup menu and switch to nighttime mode. If I leave it in Auto it will just stay in daymode, which is fine during the day but at night the screen is too bright.

My ? is, is there a photo-voltaic light sensor somewhere for daytime/nightime brightness when in auto mode?
The screen did dim on its own before we were rear ended a few weeks ago, it would dim when the light were turned on, could that impact have had any effect? The impact was minimal, just some scuffing and a bent muffler.

So to summarize, yes the setting is in auto mode, but at night the screen will not dim, unless done so manually.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do your other dash lights dim when you turn the lights on? I ask because if your dash brightness level is set to MAX (via the little knob/button sticking out of the bottom of your speedometer), your dash lights will not dim and neither will the NAV in Auto mode. It will just stay at max brightness like in day mode.

i had this issue a few weeks back on our '06, couldnt figure it out either. i unhooked the battery for about 10 minutes and after i reconnected it, it was fine. not sure what the problem was and yea you do have to have the codes and reset your window but it should fix it.
