Default Water Pump Leak?

Hello everyone, my car developed a coolant leak, I believe it's leaking from the water pump. It leaks behind the crankshaft pulley. Now the car has 41k original miles...Very hard to believe that the water pump went bad, is there anything else that could be the culprit? Hoses or anything like that? By the way its an 04 Pilot EX.

Water pump would be my guess. Even with the low mileage, time is also a factor. You are at the 7 year mark and due for a timing belt anyway. Some may disagree but most concur with the 7 year rule.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe all the coolant hoses attach to the opposite side of the motor. That means your either dealing with a leaking water pump, or a blown headgasket. I would remove the two upper timing covers and all the bolts from the lower timing cover (and the PS belt). That should afford you some room to inspect the water pump area and hopefully spot the source of the leak.

Step 11 & 12 are upper & lower covers:

I agree given the location of the dampness that the Water pump is in need of replacement. This is a commonly replaced item when the Timing belt is replaced. Hate to say it but its time to bite that bullet.

I doubt its a blown headgasket because there is no oil. Plain antifreeze. I will order the parts and work on it this weekend. Thank you all!

Its not simply a matter of concurring with the 7 year rule, its in the manual. Change timing belt at 105,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. So, its also TIME to change the timing belt as written by Honda engineers. With all the related parts removed most folks change the water pump when changing the timing belt. In this case its the opposite. If the pump needs to be replaced the timing belt should be done too. The timing belt job is a little more complicated than the water pump, however. Most on these pages have opted to have a dealer or other qualified mechanic do the belt, versus DIY.
