Hello Everyone,
I have a 2005 Honda Pilot with about 55,000 miles. Great car so far. I am wondering about changing the serpentine belt. I bought one and keep it in the car just in case. Any thoughts on when it should be changed. It seems fine. Also any special tools I might need? Tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, |

Serpentine belt tool, shouldn't have to be changed at that mileage check the belt for wear and cracking if it's shiny on the back then it might need to be replaced otherwise I would say no

I only ask since I haven't yet found a recommended change time for the serpentine/accessory belt on AHM owners resource site.

I've been dragging as well too little coffee. The first week of school is stressful for parents as well.....
FWIW, in two recent heavy rain storms, I think my accessory belt has slipped and the no charge light has lit up momentarily....so its going to be changed at the 105k. I'm a little concerned about the tensioner as well simply because I've never seen that even happen before on any other car.

I don't think the maintenance schedule calls for the serpentine belt aka accessory drive belts aka power steering and alternator belts to be replaced at any particular interval. But it does call for the belts to be inspected at regular intervals.
I have a related question though. For a long time, my a/c compressor has squealed when it kicks on. Nothing horrible, but it is unmistakable. Could it mean my compressor is slowly going bad (a/c is still cold), or is it just the way it is? I have heard other Hondas that sound the same.

Sure they didn't do anything else? Belt alone is probably $35

Thing is, the belt is always spinning with the alternator, but it's only when the a/c kicks on that the squealing starts, so wouldn't it have to be something with the compressor? Bearings maybe?

Most belts have a tensioner in the mix. A squeel is usually a worn belt, but can also be worn tensioner.
