Default oil filters

I've been researching oil filters and was going to go with the Purolator Pureone filter then I came across a site where some people were saying that they have some problems with the pleats coming loose from the end caps. It seems like the more I research things the worse it gets as far as trying to the find right filter. What are the other options for a filter that is as efficient as the Pureone? I know of the Bosch filters and Mobil 1 but is there anything else that would be very comparable? I know Fleetguard and Donaldson make some high efficiency filters, but not across the entire product line and it seems like it is only on larger filters. Also I've read that the Honda ****A01 filters were better than the **** A02 filters, what is the reason for this, and can you still get the A02 filters?

thanks for the help,
Cory

Sometimes its better not to know isn't it. I recall threads on other forums where posters tortured their minds over one filter v another. The only lasting recollection of that thread is that most filters are made by just a few companies and people liked napa gold.....

Napa gold, Wix, Purolator PureOne, K&N, non-orange can of death Fram, Mobil1, Amsoil, Bosch, Hastings and Honda are all good filters.

I don't recall anyone having any engine failures related to oil filters.

Given that experience base, I would think that almost any filter is just fine.

You can't go terribly wrong with the Honda filters, but I've seen enough info on the net (by people who have WAY too much time on their hands) to convince me the $3 walmart filter is just as good as the Honda one, probably better. But I wouldn't use anything but the Honda if my engine was still under warranty.

Ditto on just about any filter. I can't think of any that would fail to meet OEM specs--even Walmart brand. As with most things, I suspect the marketing budgets far exceed any real-world difference in filter performance, or as N_Jay stated, any affect (good or bad) on engine longevity.

So is the A01 filter still available or is it discontinued? And what is the PCX-004 filter?

I tend to agree with you on a lot of stuff, but that makes almost no sense at all.
