So I replaced the rear pads and rotors on the wife's 2004 and it now makes a grinding noise in the left rear when turning hard right. No noise presnt when going straight. I should not that I left the retaining screws off of the new rotors because the old ones had to be drill out due to being seized up and the heads stripped. My other though was the dust shield, but I think the rotor may be "floating" because I left out the retainer screws. Advice welcome.
I don't know exactly what's causing the noise, but I doubt it's because you did not install the retainer screws. The lug nuts should not allow the rotor to "float". I would check the dust shield as you thought to make sure it's not bend. Check the caliper bracket and caliper. If you also replaced the parking brake pads, I would check them for correct installation/adjustment
Thanks for the suggestions, I will tear it down again tonight and replace the caliper arbors and grease them as one was very stiff and also replace the tin hardware that holds the pads in place as one was beat up.
Update, the cause of the noise was the brake pad retainer clip/holder that goes on the caliper holder bracket. It was bent and cracked and not allowing the pad to retract. Hope this helps someone else.
Chet
