Hi Piloteers,

I recently bought a new pilot( Just 4000KM now).I mostly drives highways and never got a mileage as adverstised. The maximum milegae I got is 9.5Kms/Litre.I used to drive in between 120-140KMPH in highways.

Could you please share your experiece related to mileage?

That looks like 22.5 mpg. Bang on the money.
Keep your speed down a bit and you'll do better

yeah, wouldn't complain about the 22.5 mpg. That's pretty good.

What I've found that works for my 2006 pilot is using a K&N Air Filter, Synthetic Oil and only Premium Gas (the 10% increase in price is worth the 15-20% boost in mileage over all.)

The above is also "supposed to" improve life of the engine as less wear and tear with synthetic and cleaner air with K&N.

Also periodically use SeaFoam in my tank for fuel cleaning and 1/2 bottle in the oil....

Not sure who told you this, but a K&N provides less protection than the OEM paper filter. If you want your engine to last, put an OEM filter back in and get rid of the K&N.

I would recommend driving the posted speed limit. Works the best for me. 24.5mpg average on a 1200mile road trip.

Go easy on the throttle, don't carry unneeded weight or crossbars, and drive slower. Air drag varies with velocity squared. What type of fuel economy were you expecting driving a giant box with 4WD and a V6 engine?

Drive down hill, both ways

These cars aren't light. 22mpg is pretty dang good. Be happy!

Drive a Nissan Armada for a day. Then you'll appreciate what you're getting for fuel economy from the Pilot.

Go easy on the take-offs (below 2000 rpm). On the highway go the posted speed limit. I just drove 320 miles from Colorado Springs to Monarch Ski Resort. We average 23.9 mpg with 3 adults and 2 teenagers, Ski and snowboard equipment, a cooler, and extra clothes. Through the mountainous terrain and curves the Pilot did really well. We have no performance upgrades so I think 23.9 for all the added weight, hill climbing, and gas pedal adjustments (not in cruise) 23.9 is probably 10 more miles per gallon than I would have gotten in my Toyota Tundra Crewmax 4x4.

Default Pilot MPG

Thats pretty darn good especially running all that A/C !

I get around 23 MPG, during combo city/highway driving . Listen to the others about acceleration I keep mine between 2000-2500 RPM and drive posted limit or about 65-69 MPH. So I can feel the engine pretty much running 3 Cylinders all the time.

I have about 2,600 miles on my 2012 EX 4WD. While my trip computer shows it has gotten 23.3 mpg since I bought it, I also check it manually at every fill-up and my calculations show I'm getting 21.653 mpg. I don't consider that poor mileage as it is 4WD and most of my driving has been in and around town with just a handful of trips to Phoenix on the open highway. The speed limit on most highways here is 65 mph with the interstate being 75 mph. I drive the speed limit. Going to Phoenix I get really good mileage as it is downhill (from 4,880' to about 1,300'). However, that gets made up for on the trip back home.

The vehicle is larger than my former Ford Explorer, also 4WD, and the mileage is noticeably better. I will sacrifice mileage for room, comfort and utility any day.

I forgot to mention that, if you folks are judging mpg by what the Pilot computer tells you, and your computers are as optimistic as mine, your actual mileage is probably lower. Compute it manually for a few trips and fill-ups and you will see what you are actually getting.

I've heard this before but I kept track of my mileage with my Garmin GPS mileage app last summer and they were within 0.1 MPG of each other. So I stopped bothering with the Garmin.

Umm.... that is awesome! I am getting typically 17-18 MPG, mix of city/highway driving. Only 12k miles on it, and it is a '12 4wd touring. My old dodge grand caravan would get ~19-22 with the 3.8L v6 (that was rated 18/25 city/hwy). I understand that 4wd is about a 1mpg penalty, but my mileage seems a bit low. I think the highest I have ever seen on the Pilot is about 20 MPG.

Any suggestions? Will it get better as we drive more?

Yes it will just remember to keep your RPMS when accelerating around 2000-2500 RPM (3000 at most). Driving Speed Limit (City I usually do 45-50, if possible 55, 55 is a very good city speed and you get excellent MPG).

hope that helps
